The pillars are painted with deck painting and I figured I'd use some twine or what not to train them around the pillar

I was wondering if it is possible to grow my hops around a pillar. I have 2 big pillars of my deck and I'd like to have my hop hops spiral up that pillar. How do you think this would work?
