    Missed a step with bottling...

3 weeks after bottling. The bottles from the top of the barrel (the last ones bottled) are duds - the sugar definitely settled. The bottles from lower in the barrel are finally starting to show decent carbonation (I've been trying 1 or 2 bottles each night to see how bottle aging works)...

    Missed a step with bottling...

Ohio - it was not dissolved. Stirred as I dumped it in and then stirred some more. Beer was at room temp. Jay - hoping to get the next brew started tomorrow night :)

    Missed a step with bottling...

Bottled my first batch ever last night, and think I may have screwed it all up... For some reason I completely forgot to boil the priming sugar - I just tossed it into the bottling bucket and stirred it up... How screwed am I?

    Starter woes

When I was brewing my first batch (bottled last night - yay!), I had tried making a starter. It never took off after 2 days of waiting - my local home brew shop said it was probably a dead vial, so I bought another vial and just pitched it (I have a strange work schedule so my windows for...

First brew is fermenting... now, a couple questions

LOL No, I didn't pitch the yeast immediately... I waited very patiently for the proper temp and then pitched... happy to say that 12 hours later my airlock was going crazy! I'll definitely try the immersion blender next time! I have one lying around that I have not yet found a decent use...

First brew is fermenting... now, a couple questions

Thank you! I've already been playing with BeerSmith to work on my next recipe - it's rather addicting!!

Ordered liquid yeast, it arrived warm...

Ok so I tried making a starter... 5.25oz of DME in 1.5ltr of water that had been boiled, moved to a sanitized glass container, pitched the yeast at 75F, covered loosely with sanitized foil, gave it some good shaking, and waited... Then waited some more. 24 hours later, absolutely no activity...

First brew is fermenting... now, a couple questions

I've got my first brew going... here is the recipe I went with (trying to go for an imperial rye IPA sorta thing): 2lb Briess 2-row .5lb Med. crystal (55L) .5lb Rye malt 30 min steep at 160F 7lb Light DME 60 min boil 1oz Magnum at start of boil (the resultant boil-over and...

Ordered liquid yeast, it arrived warm...

I am preparing to start my first brew. I ordered a vial of liquid Burton yeast. When it arrived and I took it out of the mailbox, the package was warm and the included ice pack had thawed. Should I be worried that the yeast is dead and will not work properly? I did get it in the fridge as...
