Just tapped my Oatmeal Cream Stout - Recipe Inside

I love stouts and am planning another one soon so this has me interested, I am extract with steeping grains as well. I think I read something about a problem with steeping oats before, anyone know if this is ok or if they need to be mashed? Would anything else in the receipe need changing...

    Need ideas for what's next.

That is the coolest label I have ever seen! :rockin:

    Its all gone wrong!

I tasted this brew just over a week ago and it is hard to describe what it tasted like. It tasted really really good, then had a horrible sour/nasty after taste. Next sip was horrible with a nice after taste! It was bad enough that I poured it down the sink but the good part of the flavour...

    Its all gone wrong!

Thanks for the responses, no this is not the my stout that now smells faintly of bannanas! I meant to mention this in the main post but forgot! I asked this question in another thread but got no answer, why would my stout smell of bannanas? I vaguely remember reading about fruity smells if...

    Its all gone wrong!

Well I think the title may just about say it all. Bottle conditioning a pale ale, been in the bottle about 3 weeks. Lifted one out to put in the fridge to try it and its got mold in the bottle! Lots of tiny spots floating throughout the bottle, had a good check throughout the batch and it...

    Experiences adding coffee to stout?

Racked it to secondary and added in 600ml (about 20oz) brewed espresso, the stout actually tasted pretty good when I tried it before racking so that was a relief after fearing it had turned out a bit bland, hopefully the coffee will add an extra element to it. I did have one concern though...

    Experiences adding coffee to stout?

Thanks for all the advice, looks like I will not be able to rack it over till either Sunday night or Monday (away with work this weekend) so got a little more time to think about it, at the minute I think I am gonna go with adding around 20 oz of brewed espresso to the secondary, if I do another...

    Experiences adding coffee to stout?

Hi guys, I currently have a stout in my primary, gonna rack it to secondary on Sunday night and I am a little worried that it is kinda bland. It is only my second brew boiling all the ingredients (all canned prehopped kits before) but the wort seemed a bit tasteless. I will taste it again...

    sugar or malt?

I have used both sugars and malt extracts to brew pre-hopped canned kits, I assume this is not the type of brew you are making as you mention a boil. With the sugars the beer turned out ok but the best way to describe it is as a little 'thin', one of my friends described it as being very...

    New Labels....

Those are excellent, I especially like the Stout one!

    Lift off!

I would not worry about the OG too much at this stage, I have made around 9 or 10 batches and have never once got an OG reading of what I expected, I know there are alot of others out there that have the same problem. As you know the heavier stuff sinks and the lighter stuff sits ontop so maybe...

What do you guys (and gals) think of this?

I think these all look great but I definately think Number 2 has the edge, I think the oars tie in with the banner for the brew name very well, I also think 3 is a little too much. I take it from the discussion that you are actually going commercial with your brews? Excuse my ignorance. If so...

    Beer Kegs help

I just tried one of these for the first time, though it is a Hambledon Bard Beer Sphere rather than a King Keg, basically the same though. I put my stout in it and it was alot easier than bottling, however when I came to drink it it did not work as well as I had hoped. First off cooling...

    I.P.A. Label

I am aware that using labels like this would not be appropriate for commercial use but I think it a little far fetched to think a large art house is gonna come after me for using these in a purely personnal manner. If I ever go commercial (unlikely) I would obviously have to create my own...

    I.P.A. Label

All the images I have used I have got by google and simple searches, though I do warn you if you are easily offended searching Google for 'Pinups' may not be the safest way to go about it! I then just resize with paint and use the website www.myimager.com to add the text/borders. Its really...
