That's my hope... dumb mistake considering this isn't even close to my first batch... lesson to everyone: Don't brew if you have to rush. Wait until you've got the time to actually make sure you take every necessary step.
I brewed up a 5 gallon batch of Oktoberfest this afternoon... brew went well, got everything cooled down, and topped up to 5 gallons in my fermenting bucket...
Pitched my yeast, threw on the top for the fermenter, did my usual aerating shakes, and stuck my airlock in the hole before throwing...
Thanks! Haven't even been planning to move to secondary until Sunday, so definitely not rushing... just kind of cool knowing the magical yeast gnomes are in there doing their thing.
First batch is in the fermenter and when I checked the airlock a few minutes ago, the bubbles are coming about every 10-15 seconds.
Put in primary on Friday night and OG was 1.059. English Pale Ale.
Saturday morning it was bubbling away and by mid morning it was bubbling pretty quickly -...
It's at a pretty constant 70 degrees in the closet where the fermenter lives.
Even with it being the first, I'm still planning on going to secondary with this one since it's supposed to be dry hopped. Probably wait 9-10 days before moving to secondary and then the real hard part starts -...
Thanks. Helped a friend brew Wednesday night and decided to quit thinking about it and pick up my gear and a kit yesterday afternoon on the way home (big thanks to the folks at Alabrew, too - very helpful).
Put my first brew in primary last night... airlock is bubbling happily as I type and the next Sweetwater 420 awaits.
