    Did my first overnight mash

It think I can speak for many that usually have long brew days by saying equipment makes all the difference. It might take me 40 minutes just to get my mash water to temp. Mash time is what it is no matter the equipment. Now I have to get the spRge water ready. If I am using a cooler for the...

    Dissolved CO2 and S.G.

Nice job! Will you do the same with the beer after it's carbed now that you have the base line out of the carboy. This is where there will be a more significant amount of dissol ed co2. The results i think we should see are again a lower sg with carbonation and a rise as it degasses. People...

    Dissolved CO2 and S.G.

I kinda figured the gas suspended/bonded/? in the liquid would decrease the density/sg, but I just wasn't sure to what extent. I suppose I could measure the sg of my next beer, force carb it, and then measure again. The bubbles acting on or against the hydrometer should stop at some point...

    Bottle Bombs????

does dissolved co2 in beer change the specific gravity?

    Bottle Bombs????

If they're anything like mine, you can't pour them into a glass without it turning into pure foam--even super cold. Overcarbed is one thing, but his isn't done yet if it's only been 2 days.

    Bottle Bombs????

Had a pilsner in a similar situation once. I just popped the caps and let the bottles fizz (while cold), then recapped. Not ideal, leaves lots of airspace in the bottles, and wasted some beer, but they turned out ok. I figured the excessive foaming was purging the bottles, so the airspace was...

What bourbon and how much for 4.5 gallons of stout?

Some experiences found here. May give some perspective. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f13/balancing-out-burbon-bourbon-barrel-porter-194426/

    Thoughts on Dubbel recipe

Racking to a secondary fermentor is too common practice to be a issue. The wort is still fermenting ( eating o2, crapping co2) in secondary if done as directed in most kits; so, oxidation shouldn't be an issue as long as it was transfered "nicely." Let it sit as long as you can stand it i...

Home brewing saves you money? HAHAH!

Me too. But, at least we know what's in ours! It's almost a healthier alternative to commercial beer.

Home brewing saves you money? HAHAH!

Along the same line as Yooper--bulk grain, bulk hops, and washing yeast will save money. Bulk buy a bittering hop that will work for a range of styles. Bulk buy a base malt. Kits are awesome, but really cost you.
