    Dried out malt a problem?

A friend of mine got the obligatory BIAB kit from Williams Sonoma some time back and now his malt extract has dried out a bit. I wouldn't say it is a brick but it has some small bricks throughout. Maybe 25 percent of it is still a floury sort of texture. I couldn't tell him if it would be good...

Simple Electrical Q - Yes, I realize I am clueless

I might not understand the verbage here but I definitely have been using it to cool. I should say though that the setup for this doesn't necessarily use the stat in the way intended.

    Awesome. Thanks yall.

Simple Electrical Q - Yes, I realize I am clueless

Can I use that with the son of a fermentation chiller? I thought it was only for use with chest freezer or devices with a compressor.

Simple Electrical Q - Yes, I realize I am clueless

In this case the SOFC is a diy chamber usually used to chill wort. Its a rudimentary setup overall. 9v adapter hooked to cpu fan and thermostat. When the temp in the 'wort chamber' warms up to the setting on the thermostat, the fan turns on exchanging air from the wort chamber with another...

Simple Electrical Q - Yes, I realize I am clueless

This one is the absolute bottom of the Honeywell barrell - CT31A. Nothing in the paperwork makes it clear to me. Thanks.

Simple Electrical Q - Yes, I realize I am clueless

Hi Guys, This will probably prove to be a really simple answer here. I admit fully to being a complete dunce on circuits. Having said that, I would like to try and convert my SOFC to keep temps on my brew WARMER instead of COLDER. I know, I know, Why? Im not really even gonna go into detail...

SOFC question on my first time using it

I went ahead and set it at 60 and gave a day. It is in the second day of fermentation so the temp in the wort is about 68 right now. I plan to check it and raise it slowly as the temp of the wort comes down. I figur i will raise it to about 65 until the chamber and wort meet there to finish out...

SOFC question on my first time using it

I have a probe inside the wort so I know the exact temp. After thinking and reading this comment though I am gonna go with about a 60 degree setting. Worst case I will ferment around 65-70. And that is fine by me. Thanks for all the input.

SOFC question on my first time using it

No doubt, it took about 24 hrs to get it down about 14 degrees. I am gonna raise my setting to about 65 abd see what happens.

SOFC question on my first time using it

Yes. I understand a few degrees will be added in the bucket. I have the chiller set about 50 right now. But that feels low for the long run. If i want to ferment about 65 i feel like i should bringnit up closer to that temp. Any opposition to that?

SOFC question on my first time using it

Just to clarify that question: Should my chiller be constantly set lower than the temp i want to maintain inside the bucket or will the wort eventually drop to that chiller temp?

SOFC question on my first time using it

I built the son of a fermentation chiller and have it filled with my first brew using it. I am curious: I set it low at the beginning to get my wort to ferm temp. Once it hits that temp should I set my chiller to that same temp to maintain it? In other words, will it reach equilibrium inside the...

Plinian legacy - How long to leave it be?

I am using that method you described with a 20 gal trashcan and aquarium heater to keep a constant temp. I try to keep the water bath at 58-60 degrees. Currently researching a ferm chamber to gain more control. Thanks for the help.
