    Muntons Belgian Style Ale kit...

Just brewed a Muntons Belgian Style Ale kit. Just wondering how to work out the final ABV. Started off with the malt supplied and yeast OG 1.040 was at 1.004 when I transferred to secondary (4.73%). At this point I had to stir in a packet of flavour enhancer, did that and took another gravity...

    Dry Hop Question

As I said before, get yourself a dry hopper filter (I dry hopped without one, once!), drop it in a bucket of sanitiser, take it out drop the hops in that, then place it in your beer 5 days to a week before you go to secondary, syphon your beer to secondary, take the hopper filter out of the...

    Dry Hop Question

And for kits that want you to dry hop, I got this after the first one, https://www.amazon.co.uk/Stainless-Strainer-Brewing-Kegging-Equipment/dp/B07D1J1SY4 The first one botteling wasa nightmare, ruined a bottler, bits of hop got stuck in it and wouldn't come out, I had to poor the bottles...

    Dry Hop Question

I read here not to bother with secondary, but have on the last few, I'm getting better attenuation and a higher ABV and clearer beer. I'm going to stick with it. When I get a sink set up in the garage I'll have room to start a new brew when I transfer so will increase production as well. Tony.

    Festival German Wiess beer...

Hi guys, Going to bottle/keg my Festival German Wiess beers this weekend, I generally leave my beers to condition in the bottle/keg for about a month before drinking them, keep ales and stouts in the garage and lagers in an old fridge in the garage. Should I treat the Wiess beer like a larger...

Begginer using kits, 4th brew not looking good...

I did try another one, very similar, but with less of the sourness, could still be maturing. I'll update properly on the next one, not giving up on it yet.

Begginer using kits, 4th brew not looking good...

I wouldn't say tart OldDog, hopefully bad seal like rb and bo suggest. I'm going to open another one tonight, I'll let you know how it goes.

Begginer using kits, 4th brew not looking good...

It's hard to describe, but me and my lad (who has working taste buds) were both getting an unpleasant "sour" finish, not to much fun up front either. The colour I don't understand, from the sample tube you take the hydrometeor reading from, poured into a glass, it was every bit Newcastle Brown...

Begginer using kits, 4th brew not looking good...

Left to right, what I brewed, ingredients, condition, date, OG, kegging date, notes, FG, ABV, 1st taste. Brewmaker Northumberland Brown Ale Malt tin supplied, 2 * 500g of dark spray malt + 100g of sugar Temp was hot again, left overnight and pitch yeast in the morning, bubbling by end of day...

    Stale Black Patent Malt

Don't know about malt exactly, but you can often open something and get an off whiff as the trapped air is released but once that is clear, you're fine. Go back and have a good sniff, see if you're still getting the smell.

    Fortified Stout

Thanks for the response Sammy. I'm only on my second brew but having read a number of posts and watched a lot of YouTube videos, I'm going with the leave it in the fermenting bucket for 2 weeks and then bottle/keg it. I'm only using kits. I think the old dropping a shot of port in a pint of...

    Fortified Stout

Hi, I'm brewing a Coppers Stout and am thinking fortifying it with a bottle of port would be lovely. Has anyone tried this? If so at what part of the process would you do it? I'm thinking near the end of fermenting a couple of days before bottling/kegging. Good idea or would the yeast start...
