Recipe Feed Back - Irish Red Ale

I'm excited to hear how the different variations of the recipe turn out. I had to change my recipe I am brewing this weekend because my LHBS was out of some things unfortunately. I was going to get a 50# bag of MO, but they didn't have any, so I opted to just use the 2-row I already had, they...

Recipe Feed Back - Irish Red Ale

Unless your system is getting amazing efficiency, You might not have enough base grain to get to the OG you want, Conways comes out to 6.5% ABV. The recipe I came up with assuming 68% efficiency has 14.75 lbs. total grain. Also if you can get your hands on some MO, it would probably get you...

Recipe Feed Back - Irish Red Ale

I am working on a recipe for a Conway's clone I want to brew this weekend, so far from what I have read I think DustBow is onto it. I would love to see the recipe you used, and hear your thoughts on how it turned out, what you would change, etc. So far this is what I have: Recipe...

    Recipe Critique: Holiday Ale

We used EKG and Happertauer last year and it went well, but I was thinking about changing the bittering hops to something with a higher AA but has a clean neutral taste to it, so if that describes Nugget then I might switch em out. As far as choosing US 2-row for my base malt, that is mostly...

    Recipe Critique: Holiday Ale

We brewed a holiday ale last year (extract) using the same spices that I liked. I wanted to make it again this year using the same amounts and types of spices but increase the gravity and add a bit more color and toasty-ness. I just wanted to get some input on the recipe I came up with, to see...

    Values for malts, hops, yeasts?

There are some import packs for mostly grains on beersmiths website here: http://www.beersmith.com/support.htm Look on the right column under Grain Extensions. Other than that, Google is your friend for seeking spec sheets on yeast, and perhaps malt, but I have never had to import malt.

Beersmith - copying from one pc to another

If you want to carry everything over, including settings and if you have changed any grains, hops, yeast, etc. You can safely copy the entire BeerSmith directory onto your new PC. I synchronize the entire folder on my laptop with my PC just before I open the program on my laptop to make sure...

Help my diagnose by 55% efficiecy...

Do you mill the grain yourself? If so, have you tried making a finer grain? If you get your grain pre-milled, you might want them to ask to make it finer. You can't go too fine, otherwise you will risk a stuck sparge. Are you sure they thermometer is still working properly?

Yeast in suspension in carbonated keg

I currently have an IPA which I had in the primary for 2 weeks and transfered to keg. I noticed when I transfered it, it was really cloudy. I sealed and burped the keg, pressurized it and threw it in the fridge. The next morning I hooked it up and forced it @ 30psi, and a rolled it around for a...

    Secondary Fermentation for Stout

If you are going to use 1 vessel for fermentation, using a carboy will help you not transfer any trub to your bottling bucket/keg because of the curved bottom. You just need to make sure to keep your siphon in the middle of the carboy where it is higher.
