    Lemonade fermentation

Well I figured since I was having such a hard time getting the yeast to take off with such a high acidic level, I decided to lower it by adding sugar water. I transfered the 1/2 gallon of must to a 1 gallon carboy, and filled it up with sterilized water & sugar. I added enough sugar to keep...

    Lemonade fermentation

Well I think I pitched to soon. It's been 5 days since I pitched the starter, but nothing is happening. I don't think I let the starter get to ferminting strong enough before I pitched it. Going to try to start another starter. Did you ever get your batch going Xalwine?

    Lemonade fermentation

    Lemonade fermentation

I used Nottingham...I liked the way it tasted in my apple/cranberry cider, so I thought I would give it a try. I also wanted a yeast that wouldn't generate to high of a alcohol content, like the wine yeast do. However, I have no idea how this beer yeast will do in a highly acidic environment...

    Lemonade fermentation

I'm starting my first batch of hard lemonade now also. I used Yooper's method of making a starter, by doing what you had done (with a little less water though), but then slowly adding a little bit of the lemonade to the starter (a couple tsp.), every 3-4 hours (I did a little longer...about 2...

    Two new Ciders started .....

Well, you inspired me to try a few. I put together a half gallon batch of cranberrie/apple cider, and a half gallon batch of spiced cider last night. Didn't have any S04 yeast, so I ended up using som Nottingham yeast. I'm a little concerned that I got a little too much sugar in them as they...

    My Cranberry Cider and Graff

Hello Bombo80, I'm not familiar with "Irish Moss". What is it? Also, did you use the S04 yeast with the cranberry cider? It sounds great, I have a couple 1/2 gal. carboys empty...I'll think I'll give it a try. Thanks!

5 gal. plastic water jug as secondary fermenter...good, or bad?

I've pretty much decided to just use glass in the future. This batch will have to be plastic, but the next batch I'll try to track down some 1 gal. glass jugs; those shouldn't be to hard to find. Thanks again for everyones input, I appreciate the advice.

5 gal. plastic water jug as secondary fermenter...good, or bad?

Thank you guys for your replies! I've been doing some more research on the internet, and it turns out that those water jugs are made with Pollycarbonate, which (according to the data I saw) can diffuse oxygen, among other gasses. The amounts may be minimal, but I would rather be safe than...

5 gal. plastic water jug as secondary fermenter...good, or bad?

I was wondering if fermenting cider in one of those 5 gal. plastic water jugs, used in water coolers, will let oxygen diffuse through the plastic and into the cider, resulting in vinager? I don't know what kind of plastic is used in those jugs, or if the thickness of the jugs themselves would...

Bottle Carbing Idea (Final Data Review)

Edit: Another thing I just noticed watching this test was that the liquid level was lower than when I started the Carbonation. You can see that from one of my posts in the original post. I guess that means that the bottle volume expanded while heating for Pasteurization. Total volume of the...
