First try at custom brew recipe

Ok gents I finally bottled today after 3 weeks in 2ndary with 4lbs of pineapple: OG - 1.052 Gravity upon transfer to 2ndary - 1.010 FG - 1.003 The wife and I sampled while bottling and the flavors were really good. An initial nice subtle taste of pineapple with a hint of cinnamon on...

First try at custom brew recipe

decided to brew tonight because I have appointments tomorrow and the wife and I are going to the beer and crab fest on Saturday. All went well I made some mods based on feedback. I added the Light DME for 60 mins and the Bavarian at flameout. I also added 4 cinnamon sticks (1.5oz) with 15mins...

First try at custom brew recipe

I am going to buy prefrozen pineapples. I am not sure I can get quality fresh ones this late in the season. I will take your advice to thaw and refreeze them and plan a 2ndary of 3 weeks to be on the safe side.

Understood. In your experience, is two weeks long enough? And yes, I've mastered the practice of hurry up and wait...lol

First try at custom brew recipe

First off, I thank you all for your responses. I am not a conservative person and when gathering information to establish a recipe, I wanted to keep it somewhat simple and push the envelope as well. There is a myriad of information out there regarding pineapple beers, some good and some bad...

Since my first post on 19 July 15, I now have 5 brews under my belt, 1extract (1st Brew, American Wheat, turned out great!) and 4 AG's - La Petite Orange (bottle conditioning, will try this weekend), Honey Kolsch (bottle conditioning), Hefeweizen (bottle conditioning), and an IPA(primary...

First AG. Think I screw up!

No, I had planned to siphon it and leave the break. I am using beersmith right now and the numbers and information there seem to be simpler to understand. The data seems to be simpler to input as well.

Ok, I have tested my equipment and here are the results: Mash tun dead space (started with 3 gal and test conducted with transfer hose/no tilting) - Dead space - 2.48l/.65gal/2.6qt Boil off - Started with 3gal ended with 1.7 gal/6.8qt (not a very aggressive boil).

    Novice in NOVA

Thank you all for the warm welcome! I am in Woodbridge and I reached out to the Prince William Brewer's Guild this afternoon as it seems they are probably the closest to me. I will be attending their next meeting in Aug (barring my wife making plans and then telling me at the last...

First AG. Think I screw up!

I will experiment tomorrow and see what conclusions I can draw. I don't mind jumping off into the deep end, plus I have already purchased both of the kits so I have to brew them. The transfer process I use seems to be about the same. Again, I will play around with my equipment tomorrow and...

First AG. Think I screw up!

As I am new to home brewing this is the first I've heard of deadspace but just did some reading on it and I will test my 10 gal igloo cooler mash tun w/false bottom tomorrow. Unfortunately, the calculator on brew365.com does not allow any modifications to the variables. I will fill my boil pot...

First AG. Think I screw up!

Thank you all for the info and advice. Ok, I am going to get a head start on this weekend's brew and go in prepared instead of trying to figure it out on the fly. I have plugged in the values (Batch Size and Grain Bill) into brew65.com (everything else is the default) for the Bavarian...

First AG. Think I screw up!

Yes the gravity reading prior to pitching yeast was 1.040 but that was on about 6 gal as after sparging and prior to boiling I had about 6.5 gals. I was using the info from the starter DVD that came with my starter kit. I now know, as pointed out by BrewrBrad82, that those instructions are for...
