    Selling everything (leaving the hobby)

I concur with the other positive feedback on the seller! Nice guy, and was on time for a pickup. As others said, buy with confidence.

    Revolution Brewing recall (or withdrawal)

I've had Anti Hero (and other beers) at places that don't have clean beer lines (BWW in Woodridge comes to mind) and it and everything else at those places taste off normal. I've had Anti Hero at Revolution itself and it always tastes great there. Bombers can be hit or miss based on where you...

Brand New - Complete Newbie Questions - Pt. 1 - Budget

Unless I missed it, you don't really mention what batch size you are targeting. That can have a big impact on the size of your vessels. I currently have a 5g kettle and a 5g cooler mash tun. I push the limits and get about 4g into a keg. Lots of gyrations with lautering into two kettles (the...

    Carbonation Issue

I'm experiencing the same issue. I have a chest freezer, temperature controlled at 38F with a recirculating fan. I have 10' lines (Ultra Barrier Silver) with picnic taps. The first oz or two comes out a bit flat and I usually dump (er, drink :)) it before pulling the rest of the first beer. All...

I feel like I am brewing the same beer.

This is not necessarily the cause of your issue, but you mentioned this in an earlier post: If your yeast slurry is more than about 10F different than your wort temp, you could be shocking the yeast. I've read on yeast manufacturer instructions to keep your re-hydrated yeast temp within a...

    Equipment Causing Infection?

I ran into this same problem. If the gravity of your beer in the bottle is not lower than the post fermentation gravity, then it's not likely an infection. I went through some of the same things you did - new tubing, new auto-syphon, changed bottling procedure (oxy caps, capping on foam, high...

Has anyone had their Chicago/Lake Michigan water analyzed recently?

There are grandfather clauses in that agreement and most of the Chicago suburbs fall under a grandfather clause. I think if you've been getting water from Chicago in the past, you'll continue to get it in the future. IIRC, part of that grandfather clause has something to do with the processed...

Has anyone had their Chicago/Lake Michigan water analyzed recently?

Yeah, Naperville and east are mostly all Lake Michigan water. There's some unincorporated areas that are on well water. IIRC. I'm not sure about west of Naperville, though. There's the DuPage County Water Commission that deals with LM water, so it might be that most of DuPage county is on LM water.

Has anyone had their Chicago/Lake Michigan water analyzed recently?

I use these reports from the city of Chicago water department. You need to figure out what plant and distribution channel you are on, but most seem to be similar. I've been using the Jardine plant and the central distribution (column labeled 6 in the actual reports). I don't have a PH meter yet...

Did you mean starsan? If not, you may not have sanitized bottles.

    Chicago Water Report?

I found this at the City of Chicago web site: http://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/water/supp_info/water_quality_resultsandreports/comprehensive_chemicalanalysis.html It doesn't get updated very often, but it does give a pretty detailed analysis of the water. A guy at the water...

Thermometer- red "mercury" split in 2

same thing happened to mine once. I ran it through a calibration cycle (ice water bath/boiling water) and it restored it; at least until it fell off the counter a couple of brews later.
