    Noobie Question. Yeast Cake

I'd love to get some specific details on this as well.

    Higgins Armory, Worcester MA

There's a "Festival of Ale" at the Higgins Armory on Saturday (11/15). Has anyone been to this before? I'm probably going to head over with a couple of friends. Higgins Armory Museum: Calendar of Events - The Festival of Ale

    Should Fermcap-s look like this???

But when you added it during the boil, was it also effective in controlling fermentation?

    Should Fermcap-s look like this???

If you use it in the brew kettle, you still need to add another dose for fermentation, right?

    Should Fermcap-s look like this???

Thanks for the info. I've used the powdered stuff before from AHS, and couldn't believe how well it controlled the krausen. No mess is a beautiful thing. I'm now a believer in the stuff.

    Should Fermcap-s look like this???

I'm brewing Northern Brewers Saison Noire, and I'm using Fermcap-s for the first time. It's a very thick milky white, I mean, it looks like baby batter. It says to add 2 drops per gallon at fermentation, but I'm not sure I can even distinguish "drops" it's so thick. Any help would be...

Pic of a Few beers I just picked up.

Can you tell me a little more (country, brewer, style) about the first, Wee Heavy (style obvious), and the fourth, Damnation, in the pic?

    Lament for a dying parent

I'm sorry, but this is pretty emotional. A child should not have to feed their parent. My Mom fed me from the time I was born until I was able to do it myself (and quite a bit thereafter; she was making me grilled cheese's until well into my 20's). Yet yesterday, I had to bring the spoon up...

    Boston Beer Works??

My first trip to The Tap was last weekend at their brewfest. Got to try a few samples of their beer, all were great. Took home a growler of their fantastic Saison.

    Riverfront Brewfest in Haverhill, MA

Anyone else heading to this on Saturday? I was getting concerned with the tropical storm heading our way, but I called The Tap today and they said most of it is either indoors or under tents, and there are no changes to the plans. Certainly not a big one, but 20-30 brewers sounds like a good...

    Boston Beer Works??

Just wondering why you say that. I've been to the Brewery Exchange quite a bit in the past, but not much recently since they stopped brewing there. I was getting excited to head there now the BBW owns it, but would like to hear more of your opinion. Also, what's the layout like there now...

    Bottle Conditioning in a GROWLER??

Are you referring to these: Austin Homebrew Supply ? I've used a very similar style to bottle in twice, with no ill effects, but may not take chances if you've had 2 break. I figured that since they aren't screw caps they'd hold the pressure okay. Maybe I'll save it for when I bottle Ed's...

    scorched the bottom of pot

I use a pour slowly/stir quickly method. I place my container of LME in a larger pot of very warm water to heat it up a little before adding it. I feel it allows me to pour a thinner ribbon of it into the brewpot, so large globs of it don't dive in and sink to the bottom. I'm guessing that...

    First brew kettle?

If you're just starting out and doing partial boils, I would recommend this pot: Amazon.com: Concord 18/10 Stainless Steel 20 Quart Stock Pot With Glass Lid: Home & Garden It's just $30.98 w/ free shipping. I got mine a couple of weeks ago, and while I haven't had a chance to use it yet, it...

    Silly Question--Pronunciation of "Wit"

I had always thought it was pronounced like "white", as in a Belgian "white". When I visited Otter Creek brewery, they were pronouncing Wolaver's Wit as if it rhymed with "twit". I suppose you could also consider a pronunciation like "wheat". So, can anyone give me a solid answer on this...
