new 1st year grower - how would you support these bines?

I'm growing next to a fence that's about 10' 6" with southern exposure. I just planted 4 rhizomes, 3 feet apart in a line along the base of the fence, a couple feet away from it. (Actually the bottom half of the fence is a rock wall, though it shouldn't matter.) I'm not gonna grow the bines...

    stale hops?

Also, if it makes any difference, they're Northern Brewer 10.6% a.a.

    stale hops?

What actually happens to hop pellets if they're left out of refrigeration? Mine were sitting out for about 3-4 days, and may have become quite warm, before I froze them a week and a half ago. I'm thinking of using them for dry hopping. Are they likely to work OK? Can I tell anything by...

Calif. Common that ferments about 70F?

A belated thanks for the answers! I'll look into making one of those cheap coolers, but I don't know if I'll do it for my next beer like I was planning. Good to hear that you can get some respectable results at 70F, anyway.

Calif. Common that ferments about 70F?

Hi - For my second ever beer I'm thinking of a Steam/California Common beer. I generally think of the style as "beer made with lager yeast that's fermented at ale temperatures"... but looking for recipes I found this thread...

    Secondary in a plastic bucket?

Thanks! In the first chapter of "How To Brew", John Palmer does describe an option of mixing in the sugar in the primary and then bottling straight from there, but using a bottling bucket sounded better and I haven't heard anyone disagree. I'll go with my original plan of just using the second...

    Secondary in a plastic bucket?

I started my first ever batch (Pale Ale) on Friday night, and it's bubbling in my primary fermenter bucket. I've got a second plastic bucket that I'm planning to put a spigot into and use as a bottling bucket, where I'll mix in the priming sugar, and then from there, put it into bottles for...

    n00b cooling questions

I drained the tub most of the way once and filled with cold water again. I could do that more times, but on the other hand it seems like a waste of a lot of water. My sink is pretty small and I think the faucet might get in the way, that's why I chose the tub instead. But looking at the...

    n00b cooling questions

Hello! This is my first post and I just started my first batch last night. I'm using John Palmer's "How To Brew" as my main guide. It seemed to go pretty well, but cooling the wort took over the recommended 30 minutes (maybe 40?) and there didn't seem to be too much solid stuff from the...
