    Good to know, thanks for the tip. Might also explain why in my "How to Brew" book the stout recipe i was following required me to put 3 gallons of water in my 2 gallon pot! :)

    Hi, I finally caved in an joined the forums. Every time I Google a homebrewing question, I end up here! Brewed two extract ales with less than impressive results a while ago. Thought I'd have another go today and tried my hand at a stout, partial mash. Fingers crossed!
