I could do a followup for each variation I do, mainly because I upped the hops to 8oz from the 6 that the original recipe uses so the hop schedule is a little different. I did this because I bought a bunch of hops from YVH in 8oz and 16oz packages. The beauty of this recipe is that the grain...
Dgallo, funny that you mentioned Yakima Valley Hops. I just ordered a pound of the 2019 Galaxy crop from their Friday Flash Sale specifically to brew your single hop beer a few more times with it. So far I have done Galaxy, Cascade, and then Nugget this weekend. After that, it's Galaxy again...
For most of my beers, that being pale ales and IPAs, I keg on the 11th or 12th day. I burst carb for 24 hours and then they are ready to drink two weeks after brew day.
American IPA - Base Pale Ale Recipe for Single hop Beers
I have a single hop Cascade version of this on tap right now that is delicious and very crushable. I used 8oz of hops and with the 2 pounds of Cascade I bought earlier this year I'll be brewing this one several times.
Yeah, I'm prepared for it to be a bit earthy. If it proves to be a bit much on it's own, I can blend it at the tap with the cascade version. After this one I plan to do a mosaic version, which would also blend really well with Nugget. I believe Toppling Goliath's Golden Nugget used that pairing...
Well my first go of this using the original recipe with Galaxy hops turned out amazing. Galaxy hops also happen to be my wife's favorite, so we killed the keg much faster than I am used to. My second iteration of this recipe with Cascade is probably halfway gone (also delicious) so I need to get...
Welcome back! Stepping right into electric is certainly a good move. I got back into brewing eight years ago but stuck with simple extract and propane. I moved to all-grain batch sparging five years ago but I'm getting that itch to explore eBIAB just for the sake of simplicity and easy cleanup...
I prefer to put them straight into the beer. It's more effective and a lot easier than dealing with bags. Plus you don't have the risk of infection from the bag. The only issue I have ran into with heavily dry hopped beers are some of that matter making it's way into the keg and clogging up the...
I keep my IPAs in the 8-10oz range but I think I'll just stick with your exact recipe and use 6oz for each to keep these from getting too hoppy. I could probably make a killer NEIPA with the 2oz of each hop I'll have leftover though!
I plan to use 8oz each of Mosaic, Simcoe, Amarillo, Nugget, Galaxy, and Cascade for a total of 6 single hop IPAs. I know your recipe uses 6oz of hops; do you think 8oz is too much?
I use a little Munich in most of my IPAs as well but they are closer to amber in color. I really like the look of Dgallo's recipe so I'll stick with that. I just bought 4 pounds of hops from Yakima Valley. I plan to do 6 different single hop IPAs throughout the year with a few other styles mixed in.
O'dell has a single hop Cashmere IPA available in their mix pack right now. The bottle describes the aroma as white grape and soft peach and the flavor being melon, lime, and pear. I'm not crazy about it but I would still recommend it just to try it out. It's certainly different from all the...
This is perfect. I was thinking about doing a series of single hop brews this year using the same grain bill, even starting with Galaxy as I have never brewed with it.
