Clone Beer Founder's Breakfast Stout Clone

This turned out very good. My friend did 10 gal and I did 5 gal. We both went a step further and bourbon oaked in the secondary. I can tell you that he did not add coffe at bottling, and I did, and in taste testing, you really can't tell. It's about 6 months old now, and the sharpness has calmed...

Clone Beer Founder's Breakfast Stout Clone

Oh, so I just realized you haven't brewed it yet. Check the mash efficiency in beer smith, and if you think yours might be low, go a touch higher with your base malt. Mine turned out great using 18.5 and I mashed at 155.

Clone Beer Founder's Breakfast Stout Clone

Hi Big Red! Ok, so I decided to check the forums tonight, because I moved this recipe from the secondary to the bottling bucket tonight. I was going to keg it, but decided I am going to bottle it, so I am boiling my jar, water, lids, and when it all cools I am going to cold brew the kona and...

    Trub and loss!

Oh, and the beer is amazing, it is a red ale IPA dry hopped and just amazing. Tried it flat, so in a few weeks i hope it wins a contest at foothills warthawgs brew meeting! I have a breakfast stout still aging, and a smash about ready to bottle. The beer we are talking about I am calling "Big...

    Trub and loss!

I think I know another slight problem which sounds weird. I move my primary and secondary. Slowly as not to disturb the bed before siphoning, and this could fluff up the sediment bottom a little which makes it start sucking up dirty beer too early. I am never moving easily again before transfer...

    Trub and loss!

Thanks so much for all the posts. I am sorry I didn't respond sooner. I went out of town and forgot the power cord for my laptop. I had started with a 6.5 gal boil, dumped all the boil and trub into primary but it was down to 5 gal. I must have had too much boil off AND since I used about a...

    Trub and loss!

So, when your boil is over, and you have trub in the bottom of the boil pot, do you siphon the cooled wort to the primary leaving the trub and hops behind? This would lessen my trub amount, but I wonder if that trub and hops adds flavor when fermentation kicks off for those three days? If I...

    Trub and loss!

Hi all, So I moved to all grain and brewed a founders breakfast stout clone, a smash with cascade hops, and a red ale IPA. One thing seemingly obvious is there is a lot more trub loss with all grain, so I don't have my volumes correct. Ie: I just racked my red ale dry hopped tonight for the...

Clone Beer Founder's Breakfast Stout Clone

Moved mine to the secondary a few nights ago. OG was also 1.083 and the final was 1.023 and was like motor oil. I am fairly new to all grain, so I was a little surprised at how much trub there was, but it looks like it will be awesome. I will be sure to let everyone know. My friend is going to...

    ah, all done.. SMASH recipe

Ah - you almost had a SMaSH then. AND, I still have three of the one gallons, and it is the same smash (eng 2 row and amarillo) with two using safeale04 and one with 05. So hopefully I can tell the difference. I know 04 was a LOT more aggressive in the beginning, but 05 became more aggressive...

    ah, all done.. SMASH recipe

Hi all, Today I started at 430pm, grinding grains. I toasted 2 lbs English 2row at 350 15 min, then 275 20 min. Ground those and 12lbs untoasted english malt for the base. strike water 170 5 gal, came in a little hot, brought down to 155, mashed 60 min, sparged approx 3 gal, to yield 7gal boil...

I am about to pitch my yeast, and DAMN, the wort tastes in-freakin-credible!!!! that sumatra brings out the other flavors. Right now it is sweet, and slightly hoppy. I think...

    question about heating element

Well all, this is a Charmglow 28qt electric turkey fryer from Home Depot. It is made by masterbuilt. Some came with a spigot and some didn't. I cannot find the manual, but the heating elements lift right out and there is a tag on it that reads 13.75 amps, 60Hz 120VAC, 1650W. It looks exactly...
