    Rauchbier Help

Awesome recommendation, thanks. I think I'd like to mash it at home, and bring it along with me. The logistics of this event are a little unwieldy, and I'd like to minimize the amount of hardware that I'd need to bring. Can I just mash up about a gallon of wort, and refrigerate it...

    Rauchbier Help

I definitely appreciate the advice. I guess I was sort of hoping that I could just steep some smoked malts in a grain bag (extract brewing style) for a while at the right temperatures, and get some smoked flavor out of them. Having not used them before, I don't have a good way of knowing if...

    Rauchbier Help

A local Seattle brewery (Big Al's) is having a pretty cool homebrewing centric event this weekend, that they're calling "Share the Wort!". Basically, they're going to whip up a big batch of wort for their Brougham Bitter, and distribute about 6 gallons of wort to a bunch of homebrewers. We're...

    Beer Thief Help!

GMB, thanks for the tip. So the fermtech one should work fine, without needing to depress the tip on the bottom to open the seal? Excellent. Undallas: I was under the impression that the fermtech one needed to be pressed against the bottom of the carboy to open the valve. That's all.

    Beer Thief Help!

Hi Guys, I could use some veteran advice to help me out. :mug: All my carboys are the 6.5 gallon variety. I bought them all in one swoop, and not having to worry about blow-off tubes is pretty nice. They all stand 22" tall. So my current wine thief is this piece of junk: It's...

    Obligatory first brew thread w/pics.

Nice work! Our first batch went in on Wednesday night, and looked almost exactly like yours at first. (We made a mistake and didn't chill the wort before racking to the carboy, so that took about 12 hours to cool). 2 days later, we've got a healthy 2-3 inches of foam and the thing is a...
