    Man, I love Apfelwein

I used turbinado sugar in a gallon batch. Woke better than priming sugar for ABV.

    What I Brewed Today

They are dried flowers... I just dump them in the same bag as my hops. You can find them at most Mexican markets as Jamaica or through your LHBS. And yes - the beer is pink!

Noob mistake - forgot to purge O2 before I force carbed

Just a quick follow up on this. It appears I've dodged a bullet - the beer came out fine with no off flavors. Happy about that but rest assured that l will be working from a checklist going forward!!

    Belgian red amber recipe

Fair point on the body... I've got a 104 qt. igloo keg cooler for ales that need a bit more steady temps and a fermentation fridge that I use for stuff that *really* needs more controlled temps (Thinking of a nice bohemian pilsner next time out) but I wanted this one fast and easy. I've...

    Belgian red amber recipe

Seemed like a good idea at the time... :tank: Seriously though, I wanted something that would have a good body, lots of flavor and ferment well in a central Texas summer. I've always liked red beers and have grown to love the 3711 - it just seemed logical.

    Belgian red amber recipe

Hey y'all, In an attempt to be a bit more active on the boards, I thought I'd post a recipe I brewed a few weeks back. It's a red amber with Wyeast 3711 French saison yeast. 10 Lbs. Moravian 8 oz. Caravienne 8 oz. Caramunich 8 oz Carabelge 2 oz. Special B 4 oz. Carapils Mash 4 Gal...

Noob mistake - forgot to purge O2 before I force carbed

Thanks GilSwillBasementBrews! I did the "on-the-side-roll" bit for about 10 mins. I'll let it sit overnight, pull a glass tomorrow and report back. I hope it turns out as the pre carb sample tasted damn fine!

Noob mistake - forgot to purge O2 before I force carbed

Well crap. In my haste to get a Belgian red amber kegged and ready to go, I forgot to burp the keg before I force carbed. When I realized what I'd done I immediately purged the headspace, But I think the damage is done. Reading the other threads the consensus appears to be somewhere between...

Re-sanitize my corny keg or no?

Yep! After cleaning and rinsing the kegs I made up a batch of starsan and pressurized the keg. I then used the tap to transfer the starsan into the next keg, pressurized it then x-ferred to the third keg. All three are now sitting as sealed empty kegs! I'll be sure to hit the top with a...

Re-sanitize my corny keg or no?

Hey all, I'm kegging for the first time and have a question: Yesterday I cleaned, sanitized and pressurized my corny kegs but didn't get around to racking. Is it best practice to run more sanitizer through prior to racking today or will the steps I took yesterday be sufficient? I don't...

Lurker finally posting - with a question

Thanks Y'all!! I've read the style guides and about a bajillion recipes from other folks in the process of developing the one above. I just didn't want FF hops making it turn into a pale ale... We'll see how this one shakes out. To the point of brewing the same thing twice, I haven't gotten...

Lurker finally posting - with a question

Hey All, I've been poking around here for a while and finally feel like I'm worthy of posting a hello and a question. I started brewing all-grains straight out of the gate last September and have seven 5-gallon batches in various states of consumption. Right now, I've got an Imperial Amber Rye...
