I winder if there's any correlation between Coopers buying Mr Beer and the fact that many of the recipes are now "out of stock"? I've never seen so many beers listed as out of stock at one time. Makes me wonder if Coopers has decided to discontinue some of the current recipes
I have a suggestion for a next beer that may be in the style you like but it's not nearly a Shock-Top clone. Try the Wicked Monk. I used White Labs Belgain Wit yeast and 1 lb of lighr DME instead of the booster. It was tremendous. Came in at about 7% ABV. VERY tasty.
If you're willing to...
A couple other notes if you decide to try this malty treat:
1) I used White Labs WLP 028 yeast - I highly recommend it over the Fromunda. I've experimented and dome it with a whole vial of 028 (best batch yet) and also tried half vial + a Fromunda (good but not great)
2) I've have done this...
Okay, thanks. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on doing something. I agree w/ your post and those a couple pages back about refrigerating at least a couple weeks. I was only cooling for 1-3 days but found that 1 week minimum is really needed.
What's the difference in the two steps:
Carb for 2 weeks at room temp
Condition for 2 weeks at room temp
Are you doing anything different in carbing than what you do for conditioning?
The only thing I would add is a +1 to your comment on modifying MrB's timing suggestions. For the...
Welcome to the brew club. I'm a noob myself. First batch was brewed in late Feb and now have 13 thru or in the fermenter. My advice (condensed from reading this forum & personal experience is: 1) sanitize well, 2) replace booster w/ 1lb DME (or keep half the booster and add 1# dme), 3)...
I have a question for all you guys that know what you're doing (cuz I really don't). I had been brewing my beers by MrB recipe except I always use White Labs liquid yeast and replace booster w/ DME. For the most part the results have varied from good (Fall Seasonal & Bombshell Blonde) to...
Interesting experiment. But if you're still willing to wait 6 wks before cracking the first one I think I would keep the first 2 weeks intact, maybe bump it or the 2nd stage up to 3 and take out time from the last stage. But then again, I've only been doing this since January and only have 6...
So for my next brew I was planning on bumping the ABV by using booster left over from a previous batch that I replaced it w/ DME. So in future batches if it calls for booster do I use the amount the recipe calls for plus the 1lb of DME? How about a recipe that does not call for booster and...
Agree w/ taking notes for future reference. I've only brewed 4 batches and only one of those has made it to the drinking phase but I started an Excel spreadsheet w/ a tab for every beer brewed. I note where I deviate from the MrB recipe (e.g., no booster, type of DME, type of liquid yeast...
Justibone, thanks for the reply. Where can I find out more about yeast starters? I've read the term a number of times but I don't know the process. I take it I probably should have saved my yeast vial to use for a starter?
I'm on board w/ the exponential decay thing regarding the FG. It's...
Hi Everyone,
I recently made the plunge into the world of MrB. Went to a friends for a Xmas party and he had 4 or 5 different MrB brews. I loved the Fall Seasonal. Didn't like the couple of different Christmas Ales at all. But I kept going back to the Fall Seasonal & I was sold. Had to get...
