    Brew Day 2/21/2012

Getting all set up for tomorrow's brew day #92, Dead Guy Ale on deck. Stand back gentlemen, I'm doing science.

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I believe it's time to remove the tarps from the brew rig, and fire up the keggles. It's been just over a year since I've brewed, entirely too long.

Flu bug has been running around my house for weeks so I got a little lazy, left it in the fermentation chamber an extra week. Aged a month, and will chill it back down and will put it on gas this weekend. Should be good to go in a week.

Yeah, it's a little excessive. But only having to turn 2 key switches for the entire run is pretty sweet. However, moving the hoses around to the various quick disconnects looks a little like a phone operator from back in the 70's.

runoff ended up shy on final volume again, by about a gallon. I think this is mostly due to switching over to beersmith from promash and needing to get everything dialed in. OG prior to adding the topoff water was 1.088 target was 1.065, after adding topoff water the OG went down to 1.069, not...

It is written, one must enjoy a home-brew whilst brewing a home-brew, it pleases the beer gawds. Previous Dead Guy nom nom nom nom irish moss added, .5 oz saaz added at the 10 min mark, and another at the 2 min mark. *something weird as hell praying on pandora*

Worked out pretty good last time, I guess because of the dryer air, I evaporated an extra .75 gal. So by the time I added a little topoff water, it brought my OG back down to where I wanted. I'll take dumb luck any day. *Dead playing*

Pre boil came in too high again, looking for 1.055 and got 1.065. It must be my crush, makes my eff way too high (90-95%) It's not a fluke, pretty constant with last dozen brews. Maybe I should go back to batch sparging.

I went to lowes and got a wooden dowel like what's used for hanging clothes on, added a 1/2 gal at a time, marked the rod and then came back and burned it in.

24 mins into the boil, salts added and first oz of northern brewer Hops. *Bob Marley* on. Todays yeast if from a local vendor, 2nd time I've tried them and wow, can't complain, esp when they make Pacman available all year!! Yeah, pretty f'ing sweet.
