First batch seems to be long time clearing

Have you been moving your beer around at all? I use a similar pressure barrel (only done 1 brew so far) and I found that whenever i moved the barrel around even slightly, it got less clear. After it had been left in the same place for a few days it was nice and clear. I just drank it out the...

    Brew Night from Hell

Living in America sounds so fun! You guys get to shoot skunks and snakes! The closest we get to that sort of thing in the UK is putting a glass on a spider, slipping a piece of paper under, and carrying it outside.

    Brew Night from Hell

People put snakes and stuff in vodka, you should've chucked it in the wort and made some snake beer. If it works for vodka, it should work for beer, right?

    First beer... catastrophic?

Every cloud has a silver lining i guess.

How much priming sugar do I need?

My keg is air-tight, so pressure will build up inside it. When the pressure gets too low to let beer out the tap, I guess I'm just going to have to loosen the lid to let air in (even though I know it will make it go flat quickly). This is my first brew, so I'm kind of just using it as a tester...

How much priming sugar do I need?

The force carbing sounds like a good idea, except my keg kind of broke, and as a result it's still air tight, but I no longer have anywhere to put a CO2 bulb in. Also, I'm guessing I wouldn't have the equipment to set the psi. So looks like priming sugar for me. I don't want it too carbonated...

How much priming sugar do I need?

I'm currently brewing 5 gallons of coopers lager, and the gravity has been the same for 3 days now, so I'm going to be kegging it in the next day or 2. How much priming sugar will I need roughly? And is priming sugar some sort of special sugar, or can I just use the same brewing sugar I used at...

First brew - sorry for so many ?s

Is that the same as spray malt?

    How necessary is an airlock?

So is there some pill my beer can take if I forget to use an airlock, which will stop something growing inside it?

    alcohol %%%%

Thats the word I was looking for! I just drew a blank when writing the post. It seems the extract kit I'm using isn't very clever. It told me to add half a percent to take into account the priming sugar addition, and also told me a weird way towork out the ABV which comes out just wrong. It...

    alcohol %%%%

Does this take into account the fermentation that occurs after botting/kegging when the priming sugar is added, or is that just neglectable?

    1st brew - I'm an idiot.

Today I started brewing. I used an extract kit, so nothing hardcore, but it was fun nevertheless. It's fermenting away as I type (hopefully). Anyway, during this process I discovered I'm an idiot. Having never used a hydrometer before, I assumed it worked similar to a thermometer. So i sat...

    How necessary is an airlock?

I'm guessing an airlock will be cheaper than a fan.

    How necessary is an airlock?

It will be fermenting in a bucket. Thanks for the DIY airclock advice, but i'd probably just buy a cheap one on the internet rather than make my own.

    How necessary is an airlock?

A starter kit I've just ordered doesn't seem to come with an airlock. I was just wondering how important an airlock is. As the kit doesn't come with one, I'm assuming a beer made without one would still be safe to drink, but would it affect the taste of it?
