    Final gravity after bottling?

Thanks for the reply. If I measure the FG from the bottle-conditioned beer just for the heck of it, will that yield an accurate result, or will the CO2 affect the gravity?

    Final gravity after bottling?

I found https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=148693 in an attempt to answer my question but it was so old (2009) that I figured the good-citizen thing was not to add to it, but my question is this: Doesn't the FG go down during the time in the bottle? In the referenced thread, ajf...

Unfiltered tap water for wort top-off, sulphur smell

Just to follow up, the batch went great. No trace of sulphur smell or taste in the conditioned bottles. Also I made a mistake: the yeast strain was Saflager W-34/70. Sorry about that.

    Would you drink

It's been nine days in the bottle and I figured I'd check on this batch. The first bottle I pulled out had what looked like some kind of aggregate at the bottom and some tiny black specks floating around and I frowned. However, I then pulled out five or six bottles and none of the rest of them...

    Final gravity went up??

Rerunning the numbers based on that yields an increase of .002: from 1.013 to 1.015, which is still odd but probably within a reasonable window of measurement error.

    Final gravity went up??

Thank you, I was wondering about that. A cursory Google search (that I had run before you posted your helpful info) didn't turn up information on adjustments due to temperature.

    Final gravity went up??

Ok so I'm doing a Dos Equis clone, and it was hazy. I cold crashed it with gelatin at 34 degrees for two weeks, which clarified it like I'm staring through amber glass. But the FG went from pre-crash 1.012 to 1.016 in a hydrometer. I thought this wasn't ever supposed to happen. Could...

My tasting notes for Bohemian Pils over a week of bottle conditioning

After a week of bottle conditioning (at around 67 degrees) a Bohemian "Pilsner" (actually an Ale) I couldn’t take it anymore and I started cracking bottles. Here are my tasting notes over that week. The quality improved steadily and notably each day past the one week mark I let the...

    That StarSan Smell...

jfc I wasn't trying to insult anyone. I was critical of the action, not defaming the guy's character. If you were to regard my critique as useful, it wouldn't be "insulting"--but you and some others don't think it was useful and 'tis already duly noted. Cheers

    That StarSan Smell...

It's just that if people aren't discouraged to write things like "no that hasn't happened to me" or "what's star san" sometimes you end up with pages of those kinds of answers so I tend to push back on them. I also realize that part of a great forum like this *is* based on the humanity of...

    That StarSan Smell...

Sorry. I'll never criticize anything on the Internet ever again, and instead just call people names Ah, point, but how many different people who say "my star san has never smelled" does it take for that to be useful data to someone whose star san does smell? For example, take a random smell...

Actually if you check my join date, you'll see it says 2011. And yes, I calls em like I sees em, not intending to insult, just pointing out a pet peeve of mine.

Unfiltered tap water for wort top-off, sulphur smell

I had forgotten to buy distilled water up to the point where it was time to top-off the wort, so I decided to try tap water. It's been 48 hours fermenting with Saflager S23 at about 67 degrees ambient room temp, 70 degrees carboy temp (it's in the coldest part of the basement) and the water in...
