    Vegas HBT'ers happy hour?

I'd be down for that if given advance notice of when and where. Tenaya Creek would be good. Chicago Brewing Co or The Draft House would also work.

Ordering Grains - Mash vs Steep

I'm using qBrew in Linux for now. I saw one of the more popular programs the other day had a Linux version available so I may get that soon. Thank you for the information. I would swear some retailers over complicate things just to get you to buy more stuff.

Ordering Grains - Mash vs Steep

As I understand it there is little relative difference between mashing and steeping as far as the process is concerned. I noticed when shopping for grains online, many suppliers reference whether the grain should be mashed or steeped and they sometimes don't mention either. All of the...

Who here is a sloppy home brewer?

I probably put far more effort into sanitation than I need to but other than that I'm about as sloppy as it gets. Recipes? Sure I follow them, for the most part, but as Alton Brown once said: "Anyone can follow a recipe into oblivion." At this stage in my enjoyment of this hobby I know and...

my stout lacks body, can i fix it in secondary?

Disclaimer: I really know nothing about brewing. This is a great question that I'd like to know the answer to as well. I'm wondering if you were to boil and chill some maltodextrin and ad it while racking to the secondary would be of any help.

Where To Go With This Beldian Dubbel?

I used More Beer's Belgian Dubbel extract kit: http://morebeer.com/view_product/18353/102178/Belgian_Dubbel_-_Extract_Beer_Kit I added a pound of Caramel Pils DME and a pound of Caramel Pils malt grain. I wound up with an OG of 1.072 in a 5 gallon batch. Not realizing I didn't have the...

    Naturally Clarifying A Pale Ale

I don't worry about primary vs secondary. I just think the pics are cool. I'm thinking of getting another glass carboy to use as a primary just so I can watch the fermentation process. I brew my beer my like I drink it, without worries. :D

    Naturally Clarifying A Pale Ale

This was my second batch of beer ever. It was a mini-mash kit I bought and it had Munton's brewer's yeast in it which is what I used. This is on the ground level (not many basements in Vegas) and I keep my A/C at 73 degrees. It wasn't a bad beer but it could've been better. I did learn a lot...

    Naturally Clarifying A Pale Ale

It's amazing what can be achieved with patience. Pale ale freshly racked to my secondary: After about a week and a half in the little room under my stairs: After another week or so under the stairs and getting ready to be bottled: Crud soon to be left behind:

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I'm mid boil on my first ever attempt at a Belgian dubbel (partial grain - 5 gal). Sitting on the back patio enjoying a Partagas Cifuentes Enero, drinking the last of my oatmeal stout, and surfing the net while it boils just a few feet away. Life doesn't get much better!!:rockin:

Test Out Brewing for $12 equipment outlay

My first ever beer that I made was a 100% extract import stout that I didn't even boil. My setup was a 6gal bucket w/spigot, airlock, bottling wand, tube, and bottle caps w/capper. I used recycled beer bottles that I soak in hot water and bleach in my sink, scraped the labels off with a razor...

    Hi From Lost Wages!

Hi all. I'm new to brewing but I've successfully brewed a few batches already of both beer and soda. Oddly enough, I got started home brewing not because I was trying to make a better beer but because I wanted to know more about what I was drinking. Now I'm addicted to learning and brewing...
