Just tried this beer after sitting in the keg for a few months. Excellent beer for a first AG. Biscuity with a great Amarillo hop taste. Definitely will do some more SMaSH to learn the different Malts and hops
Update: Moved the smash to a secondary fermenter and took a sample for FG. Delicious. Maris Otter and Amarillo give a great pale ale taste. This will also be our first kegged beer and will be going on tap next week.
I think as long as the bucket is BPA free the leaching of contaminants is minimal. I have done what you are suggesting and didnt taste any off flavors in the few batches that i did that way.
Maybe someone can clarify something for me. My original plan was targeting a pre boil OG of 1.041 and at 6 gal I was at 1.030. I was worried that adding a third sparge would drop that even lower.
Have done a couple of extract kits, and my brother in law and I decided to jump into AG. After countless hours on HBT and a free how to brew class, we went and invested in the AG equipment.
Reading alot about AG and SMASH recipes, so we decided for a Maris Otter/Amarillo recipe. Here was...
So the place I bought them from had a video online showing how to do it. I miss cut it once but had about 1-2' extra on each piece so it turned out fine. http://www.hardwoodsincorporated.com
I really think they made the bar.
Here is the bar stained Red Oak.
At this point I got worried I used Maple for the top. It looked pretty plain.
I decided to lacquer the bar instead of polyurethane or Clear Coat epoxy.
Now just to finish the decorating and the shelving behind and I will...
Here is the front before staining
For the underlayment, I used MDF... i think or OSB. It worked great.
I used 3/4" Maple for the top and purchased the bar rails from a place in Frederick MD. I couldnt be happier with their bar rails.
So it started out as buying a kegerator and that wasnt good enough, and the new house had a cutout from the previous owner who had a kitchenette. So here is the full bar build.
Beginning with the framing.

Its about 6' on the front and just over 3 on the short side...
Ahhh! That makes sense to call it an American Amber not an Alt. I dont have enough knowledge in the hops yet. I think I will start with this test recipe and see how it goes. With all the sweetness, do you think the hops and hops schedule will balance it out or will it still be on the sweet side??
So Ive been doing homework for awhile and lurking for most of that. Picked up the brewers best kolsch kit and its fermenting as we speak. Being the nerd I am, I already want to try my own recipe but for now stick with an extract brew since it will be only my second batch. I wanted to try an...
