HABANERO for subtle flavor Best style & hops?

This is wayyyy late, but I thought id toss on my two cents as I just made my second batch of a habenero beer. I bought a two hearted clone kit online, and decided to make a habenero (HOPenero) IPA. The first time I chopped up and threw about three peppers in the boil for the last 5 minutes...

    Fermentation Question

haha... well thanks for the help. I really do need to get a hydrometer I know. Just that with school im usually too busy to brew all too often to do all the testing i probably should and I usually dont run into any major issues... but then again every once inawhile something like this comes...

    Fermentation Question

So I'm making a beer.. or mead or whatever... with 6lbs of malt extract and 6 lbs of honey. I made it Sat. night and pitched the yeast, (champagne yeast) along with some yeast nutrient. Sunday morning the beer was bubbling like crazy but as of monday it really seems to have come to a complete...

    yeast nutrient

hello, im currently brewing a barleywine from a kit that came with ale yeast and champagne yeast, along with some yeast nutrient. Having never used yeast nutrient before, when and how do you use it? I would assume after a few days of fermenting with the ale yeast, adding it along with the...

What's the best chcolate stout recipe/kit?

I made one with my friend with bakers chocolate, didnt turn out to well. My dad got a basic stout recipe, and the guys at the brew store were making a chcolate mead or something, and they let him have a little bit of chocolate extract. He used something like an ounce for 5 gallons and it was...

    bourbon oak stout

So, Im really tempted to make a bourbon oak stout, with bourbon soaked oak chips. Im worried about investing the money because i rarely have the disposable income to do it. Is it worth doing with an extract recipe? I saw one with 12 lbs of dry dark malt, which sounds like a lot but I have...

    Blood orange substitute

it doesnt necessarily have to match the taste. Its more that i finally convinced a friend of mine to try homebrewing with me, and while I'm not a huge fan of weisses at all, she is and wanted to do something different, so really any fun ingredient to add to a heifiweizen would be fine

    Blood orange substitute

So I bought 6.6 lbs of wheat malt and 2 ounces of Mt. Hood to make the blood orange heifeweizen from the DFH Extreme Brewing book for a summer beer. I foolishly assumed they would be in season and already bought the supplies. So does anyone have any ideas on what else I could add to make the...

    spices and bourbon question

so add the spices at the end of the boil? Also, provided i still add at least a little bit of those spices in would adding bourbon and oak chips be too much of overkill and just ruin the taste, or would it be subtle enough to work? any thoughts?

    spices and bourbon question

it says "into 6 oz of vodka and 2 ounces of bourbon add: .5 tsp vanilla extract; .25 tp allspice; .5 tsp cinnamon, .25 crushed coriander, star anise, crushed juniper and black pepper." what you said makes sense, but the wording of the recipe confused me.

    spices and bourbon question

Hi, I'm a novice homebrewer and got a few books for christmas (extreme brewing and radical brewing), and when I go back to school I planned on making a batch from a recipe with a few friends. We decided on a spiced bourbon stout. The recipe is vague and just tells you the amount of bourbon and...

    First brew question

Hey, I just made my first brew a few weeks ago which i just finished bottling, and just recently made a chocolate stout, the first one barely had any grains, or hops, while the chocolate had a ridiculous amount of both. I was wondering how long after bottling the beer is ok to drink, I heard...
