Dolcita sounds like a banana brand, such a terrible name. The hop is super punchy is fruity though. I used a bunch of it in a hazy and it came out a little lotion-like almost, so use with caution.
I did Citra/1019/Sabro lupomax 3:3:1. Maybe it was the Sabro that really pumped up the coconut and...
New YVH email about 2025 Australian hops in stock just came in. They're showing off the new processing + QA facility and I wonder if that will improve 2025 Galaxy over the previous years. I think that's certainly the intent of including this facility update in the hop drop email...
Does the new...
Couple of years ago my buddy asked how much coffee and coconut to add to a stout, so I kindly advised that I do 1oz/gal whole coffee beans and 1lb/gal coconut. Skip forward a few weeks and I taste his beer and it tastes like the purest form of espresso. Turns out he added 4 POUNDS of coffee and...
I never got the reason why tho. It still attenuates like London Ale 3 (70-75%), so it's not like I'm going to use it for a WC IPA... I also want that to be on a cleaner end. Should I make a clear hazy ipa?? lol
Idaho 7 is very good, I miss that beer. Idaho 7 can be so spotty though. Often it's dank and fruity, other times just super resinous and dank. Always good on hot side, cold side could be good, I'd definitely go off aroma of your specific pellets and make a call then.
Reviving this thread because Pliny is King! It turns out that BYO worked with Vinnie back in 2024 to release an updated recipe and the issue also includes STS Pils as well as Blind Pig recipes.
Some notable differences from the last recipe:
- no crystal/caramel or munich, just 2-row and corn...
I've been intentionally trying to hit 1.020+ so that I can add an unreasonable amount of hops, but I've been ending up at ~1.014, I literally have the opposite problem :p
500 PAGES, BOYS
Is this the biggest thread of HBT? Insanely cool to be a part of this movement with you, lads. It's a great beer style and you just keep making it better!
I don't want to get too into the weeds on Cohumulone because it may not be solely responsible for the harsh bitterness, but there has to be some correlation between Cohumulone content and harsh bitterness. Galaxy is higher than average on it (32-42%) and Vic Secret is through the roof (51-56%)...
@couchsending is this you?! It's so exciting to keep watching your successes on the national stage. You've always been super knowledgeable and helpful, it's well deserved.

I think Galaxy is making a bit of a comeback. I've had some bad Hop Alliance bags that came out Peanutty, but I have a 2023 YVH bag that's tasting pretty pineapply. Beer is conditioning, but I'll report back soon.
Riwaka though... man it's intense. To me it always tastes like overripe...
