    Wheat beer vs. wheat IPA

I had no idea...it is usually the first thing that comes to mind when I think of wheat IPAs.

    Belgian Stout Fermentation Question

Yeah...I would definitely give it at least 3-4 weeks before bottling since it's a pretty big beer. I usually don't secondary unless I'm adding something like fruit or oak, but that's a whole 'nother topic.

    Freezer thermostat control

Yeah, I always use the coldest setting.

    Freezer thermostat control

Yeah...all the JC Thermostat does is cycle the power to the refrigerator/freezer when the temp reaches the setpoint that you program. If the fridge has temp control built in, I would set it to the lowest setting so that the fridge will be ON when the thermostat tells it to be. This isn't...

    Wheat beer vs. wheat IPA

Definitely agree. If you're lucky enough to be able to get Three Floyd's, their Gumball Head wheat IPA is amazing.

    Belgian Stout Fermentation Question

What was your OG? Usually bigger beers take longer to ferment/condition. Ultimately, if you get a stable gravity reading for a few days in a row, you are good to bottle, but I usually try to wait at least a month before bottling to give the yeasties more time to do their thing and condition...

Boulevard Smokestack Sixth Glass/Bourbon Barrel Quad

That makes sense. I will probably go with some closer to what you did, especially since this is my first really big beer. I actually planned on using dark candi sugar in the boil and syrup in the fermenter (I just used Amber sugar for the purposes of calculations since it was already in the...

Boulevard Smokestack Sixth Glass/Bourbon Barrel Quad

I'm attempting to make an extract version of this and am having trouble comprehending the part I've bolded. I double-checked with their website and your numbers are what they list, but they also say that it is 11.8% ABV. if you plug in the SG numbers they give, it comes out to about 10.5% ABV...

Do you ever get tired of big beers?

I think weather definitely has a lot to do with it. I've spent today planning a trip to the lake in July with some old friends and am just giddy at the thought of sitting out on a pontoon boat sipping Highlife out of the can. That reminds me...I need to go to the store and pick up one of those...

    Skunk versus Sour?

Yeah it is a change in aroma caused by UV light reacting with the hops (amber blocks UV well and green doesn't). It's pretty easy to pick out as it smells/tastes just like a skunk's spray. I don't know if any commercial breweries intentionally "skunk" their beer or if they just use...

    Skunk versus Sour?

I actually noticed the same skunky flavor in Dupont from my local bottle shop. I assumed it was from the green bottle since it was sitting on the top shelf right under some nice fluorescent lights. As far I know, there aren't any "bugs" that cause a skunky flavor. I would be curious to try...

    Free Sierra Nevada Tshirt!

Same here. My picture was me with the dogs in front of my buddy's cabin. No beer of any kind in the picture. This was a pretty sweet score :ban:

    Free Sierra Nevada Tshirt!

Has anybody who has submitted a picture in the last couple days heard anything back? I submitted mine yesterday and only got the acknowledgement email saying they received my entry.

    molasses n ginger

I have no experience with either of those ingredients, but your post immediately made me drool thinking of a beer that tastes like the ginger snaps I used to gorge myself on as a kid. I say go for it and report back!!!

    IPA remains cloudy.

I'm guessing the reason mine is cloudy to begin with is because I used so many hops that it was almost impossible to siphon, so I poured it into the fermenter through a strainer so I would lose as little wort as possible. I had a mesh grain bag around my autosiphon and it would clog up after...
