My guess as to why it is cheaper online- So they can still have a store front. To compete online Im sure they have to be on the low end but it helps them keep inventory higher and fresher so that you the instore shopper still get the junk you want
About the "hot break" they speak of, keep a bottle of room temp water by your boil... if it starts to boil over just add it
That's what the pros do with pasta and I found on my 2 batches it worked well.. doesnt kill the boil, does kill the foooooooam
Oddly enough right after I checked it and closed the lid back up it started going nuts in the bubbler... (maybe me hitting it with a rubber mallet helped too hahaha)
It's a liquid (my first batch I did dry and a starter) Right now the fermenter is at 71 and at at pitch it was 72.3 ... Yes to the foam (just checked and that made me feel much better, I was sortve not trying to open it because Im a chicken **** with all this germ stuff I read) and Extract
So I made a Hef for my second batch, did everything exactly by the book and its almost been 48 hours and I'm still not seeing the type of active fermentation I did with my frist batch (a darker beer)
I know I should be patient but I just want some reassurance... did I get some skunk yeast...
I am interested in the same so I decided to break up 1 5 gallon batch into mini batches.. and run tests on all of them with different amounts of 2 different fruits.
batch 1- 1 gallon + xfruit1
batch 2- 1 gallon +2xfruit1
and the same for 3 and 4 but with a new fruit.. maybe even zest from...
To me it seems like the finished product being in a clear fish tank would be the best bang for your buck.. though I dont know how carbonation would f up your tank
I just dont imagine fermenting beer to be a particularly pretty thing to most people
It should be sealed if he is buying a prefab aquarium... I mean you would have to use rubber gaskets on the top edge, and then make a top with corresponding gaskets to seal the top, but I dont see that being the biggest problem.
I think the hardest part is going to be getting it in and out...
Is the basement gutted? I say this only because you will have to build an all new false wall to accomodate this aquarium setup. (Or you could reframe an exsisting wall for a lot more money and way more time/effort)
I also have all these gallon glass jugs that I have turned into mini-carboys for the sake of making a batch of Hef, then breaking it down into smaller test batches and test to see how much of what fruit does what to the beer (while keeping 1 gallon strictly Hef as my control)
My lady loves...
The bucket I am using as the fermenter is indeed a bottling bucket. The 2 stage brewing steps that came with my kit said to use it as the fermenter then switch to a carboy, then back to the bucket add the sugar and bottle away.
What you are saying is to use the carboy as the primary? and...
