    Sour beer

I use cleaning solution called easy-clean cleaner. It says to dissolve 1 table spoon in 1 gallon of water. I also have PBW. I am going to give it a shot and use it instead of bleach. I guess last couple of batches I was not as good about sanitizing. It sounds like my problem is...

    Sour beer

I use liquid yeasts (Wyeast and White Labs). I do not use a starter. My yeast seems to work great. I mean it does its job. Good point about infection. I didnt think of this. Do you know if I can bleach my plastic cooler? Or simple wash will do? How long should I bleach for? and what is the...

    Sour beer

Hi, Let me first say, I am an intermediate brewer with some experience. I do all mash brewing with kegging in the end. Recently I've been having a weird problem. About 3 batches in a row had a sour taste in the beer. Here is my setup: - Converted cooler to a mash tun. It has cooper tubes on...

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

In regular cooler set up we dont circulate water nonstop only when we sparge. Here it gets circulated non stop and at pretty good flow rate. Just curious if that can decrease the efficiency and/or introduce off flavors. I guess Germans do know what they are doing :)

    Speidel Braumeister (brewmaster)

I am curious about getting BM but I had couple of questions if somebody can help me out. So mashing design in this machine is fundamentally different from traditional "coolers/mash tuns". My concern is how does constant flow of liquid through grains affect the taste? I mean is it better to...

    Temperature Controllers

Interesting information. What do you think about BCS-460 Temperature Control System? They seem to be pretty customizable and somewhat not expensive.

    Temperature Controllers

I am in the process of designing an electric brew system and since I am a newbie, I need some help with Temperature sensors. I am trying to understand how this whole aspect of electric brewery works. What types of temperature sensors are there? I keep seeing thermowells used to protect...

    Heating Elements

Thanks for the info Stevo. Do you know of any heating element that is circular in shape versus just a straight line?

    Heating Elements

I am thinking about making an electric brewing system. I've started my planning but I need some clarification on heating elements. First of all, I need to find a circular heating element. I will have issues using regular stick heating element. I want the heating element to go around the edge...

    Boiling Kettle

Water heater sounds like a good idea. I wonder if it is food grade. Otherwise I will use 15.5 gallon kegs. Does anybody know where I can find these? Thanks.

    Transfer Pumps

I was thinking about two pumps because they are going to be stationary and one would transfer wort to fermenter through some sort of chiller and the second one would transfer wort from mash tun to the boiling kettle. I guess I was thinking about transfering fermented beer out of fermenter to...

    Boiling Kettle

Maybe 15.5 gallons should be sufficient for me. I just wonder if they can be used with burners. Because it was not meant for boiling liquids.

    Boiling Kettle

Hello, I am trying to find something to make a big boil kettle. Let's say for 20 gallon batch. So like 23 gallons. I was thinking about getting like one of these commercial kegs (the ones you used to get a for a party at college). Then I would make proper cuts and use that for boiling wort...

    Transfer Pumps

Thanks Mike. It looks just like what I need for the hot transfer pump. What about cold pump? I would think that there are cheaper ones for cold transfers.

    Transfer Pumps

Hi, I've never really used any kind of pumps to transfer wort or cold beer around but decided to improve my brewing. I am looking for two types of pumps: 1. I need a Hot Wort Transfer pump. I would assume that stainless steel is probably the best. Also after doing some reading it looks a...
