Fermentation never started - can/should I buy new yeast and pitch again?

Okay, I got a hydrometer and the gravity reading is exactly 1.02. (The recipe says the final gravity should end up at 1.014). I guess I was wrong and some fermentation did occur! Lesson learned about taking gravity readings. Thanks for your help folks. This is a cool community

Fermentation never started - can/should I buy new yeast and pitch again?

Thanks for the quick reply and feedback (This is in response to AJinJacksonville) I brewed two different beers. The first did well, the second, not so much. 1. Used two different yeasts. Dry Nottingham with a starter which worked great on batch one. Liquid English Ale yeast for the bad...

Fermentation never started - can/should I buy new yeast and pitch again?

Okay, so by some standards I’m not a beginner (brewed a decent number of batches from 2009-2010.). But by the most relevant standards (I’ve had two kids and haven’t brewed in a decade and my memory sucks), I am very much a beginner again. I brewed two batches over the long weekend and one of...

    S & A Ipa

I converted this recipe to a partial mash and it turned out to be one of the best beers I've brewed so far. I love this hop combination. Thanks!

    2010 Hops Gardens

My low-rent hop trellis - three shafts of bamboo cut from the side yard, lashed together with polypro twine, sunk in pvc pipe, strung with Coir Twine. Hopefully soon to be supporting some strapping Centennial, Cascade, Nugget, and Zeus hops. Dang, can't figure out images. Hopefully can post a...

What kind of hops are in Speakeasy's Big Daddy IPA?

Pardon me for necro-ing an old thread, but does anyone have any insight into this? Their website says they use three northwest hops. I really like the flavor profile of this beer, but don't have a refined enough palate to separate the individual flavors. I'd love to know so I can start...

American Amber Ale Red Rye Ale

I did a Partial Mash version of this (with a few tweaks) and it is definitely the best beer I've made, out of eight total batches. Thanks!

    Remote probe thermometer wort proofing

Thanks for the feedback. I think I'm gonna go with a thermocouple and high temp wire probe. I really like being able to leave a the thermometer in and read the results remotely, even if not 100% accurate.

    Remote probe thermometer wort proofing

Arrgghh! Should have kept reading thermometer threads. Maybe it is not too late to cancel.

    Remote probe thermometer wort proofing

Wish I'd read this thread a few weeks ago. I've killed two RediCheck remote thermometers. I just broke down and ordered this today http://www.coleparmer.ca/catalog/product_view.asp?sku=9020522&pfx=RK Hopefully it will work out ok.

    Hydrometer Readings

If I could piggyback onto this question, since mine is very similar, here goes. I usually do a partial mash where i add 1/3 of my wort to water in the fermenter, pitch yeast and then add the rest of the wort and cap off the fermenter. My question is (a) should i do an initial hydrometer...

Newbie question regarding slightly flubbed recipe

Thanks for the feedback, folks. I feel a lot better about this batch, so I'll just wait and see how it turns out. It is great to be part of such a knowledgeable and welcoming community.

Newbie question regarding slightly flubbed recipe

hey folks, I started brewing for the first time in July after many years of enjoying the fine homebrew work of my friend, the crawdad. I was pretty instantly hooked (my third batch is in primary at the moment). My first batch (a european style brown) is in bottles and is decent. My second...
