Slow Ferm - Anything I should look out for?

I should have checked the starter gravity but in all honesty, I know it’s fermenting, very visible for the last three days. My main concern now is how slow it took to get going and if there is anything to worry about because of that.

    64f Too cold for fermentation?

Agree with IL, I just did two IPAs at 65. I think 65/64 is fine but definitely low end. I am also temp controlling on the temp of the beer, so that's 65 liquid. I was probably closer to 63/64 ambient at peak fermentation. I agree, I would bring it in now and bring it up a little and then...

    Blow Off Tube

Right, that makes sense and honestly even if it's a little, it's still waste. I have had some vigorous fermentation with tight headspace and even with a lot of blowoff, I maybe lost 1 beer. But 1 beer is 1 beer :). I was worried there was a different reason, like some reaction with less...

Slow Ferm - Anything I should look out for?

Hi Everyone, Making the good old Average NEIPA, had a pack of London Fog and made a 1.5L starter. I somewhat ran into what I though might be dead yeast. Didn't see much activity in the airlock (yes I use one after 24 hours). I don't have a stir plate to I just swirl it every so often. I got...

    Blow Off Tube

I know almost all brewing is a matter of opinion/testing things out yourself but is there a source for this? I thought the only issue with headspace is it can get messy if you have too little and that it only mattered in bottles for O2... To stay on topic though, the issue is your bung not...

New to Kegging - a few questions

Update: I forced carbed the lager to see if I could do it, got a decent carbonation on it but not perfect. Then set it at 10 PSI, hooked up the IPA burped it a little and left for 10 days. Came back, pulled the IPA tap all excited. Nothing came out. Tried the lager...nothing. Looked in the...

New to Kegging - a few questions

This is all amazing stuff!! I am very well versed with naturally carbing as I have about 25 brews under my belt all bottle conditioned. I might at some point try it in a keg but I would rather take some of the guess work out of it. I am going to let it sit on 10 PSI until a get back. I then...

New to Kegging - a few questions

I have finally acquired a kegerator with two Corny Kegs that I would like to use for a party on the 15th of August. I have done a lot of research and I need some help with what to do. Situation: I have a Lager that’s been lagering for 2 months in a secondary. I have a NEIPA that I brewed 9...

Anyone seen this after a cold crash?

I’m making the traditional Zombie Dist clone as I quite like it. This is my 5th batch of this beer and the only difference is I subbed Citra for Mozaic. Brew day went well, pitched two packs of S04 rehydrated. Fermented for 10 days and I dry hopped. Was going a 3 day dry hop but today will be...

Ran out of Amarillo for final dryhop - suggestions?

:) I like it all, IPAs are fun because you can hide behind the hops! Thanks everyone, going to add .75oz of mosaic and Idaho in place of it.

Ran out of Amarillo for final dryhop - suggestions?

Im making my first NEIPA and following a recipe that called for Citra/Galaxy/Mosaic. I could only get my hands on Mosaic/Amarillo/Idaho 7. Currently I’m on Day 7 of Fermentation all in Primary of a 10 day target schedule. First dryhop was on day 3 when fermentation was almost finished (7 day...

    Batch Priming Methods..

I’ll try and measure up 4.7oz in a cup tonight. I feel like it’s pretty close to a cup maybe even a cup and a half. I’m wondering if 0.58 cups is with packing it down to try and keep it more accurate. I could also just be way off on my guess and 0.58 is right.

    Batch Priming Methods..

Sounds like you are on your way to a nice first brew, I started with those kits as well. Batch priming is the way to go. To answer your question: - Boil up 2 cups of water for 5 minutes (time starting from when a boil starts) - I add the Dextrose as soon as a put the pot on the stove. - Cool...

    Cold Crashed IPA Too Early

Ok I am going to bottle then. I pitched half my yeast from the LHBS who told me they are good for 15 Gal batches. I only made a 5, re-hydrated and pitched at 20C. Thanks everyone, you put my mind at ease.

    Cold Crashed IPA Too Early

I was pulling my IPA out of the fridge after a 48 hour cold crash and when I pulled up my app I realized it's only been 13 days since Brew Day. I messed up by a week! I was aiming for a 3 week primary. Gravity was constant for 3 days, I dry hopped on day 7, cold crashed on day 10 to day 12 and...
