    Mold/bacteria?!

I don't have access to a digital camera at this point. Sorry, I have to go with poor word descriptions. But, this isn't the normal stuff that falls to the bottom. It is stuck on the sides, as if someone spray-painted white on the inside. The yeast previously off the top and floating around is...

    Mold/bacteria?!

I've heard of fuzzy mold growing on the top of beer...but I have this white stuff on the side of my secondary carboy. It's an IPA and has been in the secondary for about 2 weeks. It was starting to clear and after 3 days away(not seeing it), it just showed up?! So? What is this?

Who Would You Most Like to Have a Beer With?

I also only read the first page...I'd definately have to agree with Douglas Adams, and Tolkien, but I'd add Terry Pratchet to the great and entertaining authors list. As for comedians, George Carlin, Robin Williams, and the late Chris Farley (But I'm not sure I could keep up). As for...

    The poorboy lagerator

You're methods are definately more precise. My thermometer was underneath the towel/suctioned to the fermenter. However, If you have most of the fermenter under the towel...only about 2 inches in the water, would you be gaining much heat to the higher temp water?

    The poorboy lagerator

I just wanted to tell everyone what an awesome deal this is! No need for thermostats and modified refrigerators when you have a towel and a bucket. I'd heard it before but didn't believe it. I used a plastic storage container, an old towel and a cap full of bleach (and some DampRid nearby...

Once you get your basic kit all set...

A bit off the subject...I haven't done much in the way of materials research...but I know copper is $72 for 50' of 1/2" tubing and ~$35 for 10', at Lowe's. Would it be possible to use aluminum or steel tubing for a wort chiller (I think those have pretty good heat exchange), and where could I...

How long for a primary fermentation?

Thanks, I wasn't quite sure how long it should take! My others were ales and quieted down pretty quickly.

Most beautiful place you have ever been

I didn't know anybody knew about the gem of Sierra Vista! I was at Fort Huachuca for a couple of my greatest months in the Marines. It's been almost 7 years though. There wasn't a moment I didn't enjoy unless I was stuck inside!

    potassium metabisulphite

I was also given a one step sanitizer from the homebrew shop... thinking it a good all around cleanser/rinse, I managed to cloud my plastic tubing, leave white residue in my glass carboy, and (stupid as I was to rinse my brew pot with it) oxidize my aluminum. But, now I know how not to do it!

How long for a primary fermentation?

I made a yuegling clone, partial grain partial extract, last thurs the 25th with a starting gravity of 1.054. I used california 2112 yeast, and it is still going pretty well... Around 1 bubble/3 sec. The recipe said to put it in the secondary fermenter at 7 days, but I'm afraid this might halt...
