    Grainfather!!

Yeah, been in touch with the store I bought it from and the company, they're sending me a new pump hopefully that fix the problem, otherwise it's the control box that's busted.

    Grainfather!!

I would say I love the Grainfather for how easy it is to use, but my pump died while cleaning the Grainfather after the first use. Not terrible impressed with the build quality right now.

Yeast from a 220-year-old bottle of beer

From the video it looked like a corked glass bottle, the thing that helped keep the cork from rotting was that the ship got buried in sand and silt which helped preserve all the organic matter.

Yeast from a 220-year-old bottle of beer

Very interesting story came out a few days ago about a shipwreck off the coast of Tasmania that crashed in 1797. The ship was carrying 17000 gallons of beer and a few sealed bottles were salvaged about 20 years ago and they were able to (possibly) recover the yeast and re-active it. You can...

The rise of the beer snob

This article came in the Boston Globe today, interesting tidbit on the tie between the increase in microbreweries and beer snobbery. Though personally, the side article on the beer snob who went to Germany left me wanting to punch the author through the internet for how pretentious he was...

    BrewDog and 200 IBU beers

Hey All, No, this isn't another "BrewDog posted it's recipes" thread, it's a discussion of their beers and brewing in general. As I was going through their recipes I noticed a number of their beers were 80-100 IBUs up to 200 IBUs (ignoring the crazy stuff like beer bottles made out of...

Clarityferm for gluten free - extra filtering?

I use a kiesesol and chitosan mixture (super-kleer) which nanoparticle silicon dioxide and long chain polysaccharide so no gluten in that, not vegan however (chitosan is extracted from shrimp shells) if you're giving your beer to a hippy/yuppy commune.

    Official Broken Hydrometer Count

I'll add the one I broke earlier this year, stupid construction of the tube where both ends were capped, except one end wasn't on very well. Took forever to clean up that mess. 2017
