    Homebrewing slump...

I'm in the same boat. Haven't homebrewed in a year and a half, this forum used to be my casual reading and still is. Brew for a living now and working crazy hours I simply don't have the motivation on my limited time off. It really does turn your hobby into a job. I would love to get back into...

Does a balanced beer have to smell malty?

Sculpin should most definitely not smell malty. Distance can do that to bottles. The first time I had Bells Two Hearted in San Diego I was so disappointed but after trying some fresh on tap it was a completely different experience.

Anything Similar to Pliny the Elder?

Like DarthCitra said Knee Deep makes some of the best IPAs out there. My personal favorite would be any of Alpine's releases. Duet, Pure Hoppiness, Hoppy Birthday, Exponential Hoppiness, Nelson, etc. Superb.

    Do brewers make any money?

That chart looks about right for medium/large.

Is this going to be a mistake!?!?! Nelson Sauvin, Sorachi Ace, Citra- French Saison

My best saison uses sorachi ace and citra exclusively if that's any encouragement. Just don't go too crazy with the additions and you should be fine. I'd imagine nelson would be tasty as well.

No more whiskey we go home now.

My local whiskey bar down the street just got all the pappy van winkles in but at $175-230 a shot I really can't justify it.

How do YOU name your beers?

For a while I was doing Its Always Sunny references like Troll Toll Tripel and Day Man IPA (before Stone took the name). Most names are a result of some sort of epiphany a few beers in. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Home Brew mobile app

Using grapefruit juice in your brew

Maybe try some puree at bottling. We use it for casks at work and a few ounces goes a long way. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Home Brew mobile app

Pro brewers or people working in brewery field?

I currently work at a pretty large brewery and just from what I've seen I would say either have the educational background or work your way up from the bottom. Home brewing really isn't anything like running a 50 BBL system. Not trying to be a buzzkill, doesn't hurt to try. Sent from my DROID...

What is it like working in a brewery?

Agree 100%. In San Diego we just hit 81 breweries last time I checked with 30+ still in the works. There is no way that will be sustainable for very long. Business Insider just did a piece on the topic a few weeks ago here.

What is it like working in a brewery?

Working at a larger craft brewery right now. It's a factory setting and you are definitely working. If you want an easy (and large) paycheck and don't like to get dirty stay away. That being said I'll take it any day over my corporate job I got right out of college. It's been said many times...

Can you cut $1,000 from your monthly spending?

If I had to cut $1,000 from my monthly spending I'd be eating even more Ramen than usual. At least I don't have to pay for beer (homebrew & commercial).

    Movember

Meh it's been no shave 2013 for this guy. Working production at a brewery I'd get a harassed for shaving the thing off at this point.

    Worse...Brewpub Names...Ever

At an SD beer fest a few months back Hillcrest Brewing wouldn't let my friend get a beer without asking for it by name. "Can I try the Irish Red?" "SAY THE NAME" "Hmmmm can I get the red please?" "Ask for it by name" "Fine can I get a Crotch Rocket"
