Newb electric question - US induction plate in UK

Hi all, I moved to the UK last year and can't shake the itch to brew. I visited family in US for Thanksgiving and brought my induction hot plate back with me in my luggage. It has a 6-20p plug (20A, 250V). The device itself is 3500W at 208V, which by my novice calculations comes out to 16A and...

    PID/RTD sensor issues

Wow, thanks for the information. Now maybe you can explain this to me before I lose my mind... I must admit I'm pretty much a novice when it comes to using the multimeter for anything other than volts, but I thought I'd try to follow your instructions. No luck, I wasn't getting any readings...

    PID/RTD sensor issues

Need a little help here. My PID (a Mypin TD4) had been working just fine. All of the sudden, I'm not getting any temperature reading. Or more precisely, the PID reads UUUU, which, per the manual, means "The input signal exeed the measured HI range." It's the same error I get when the cable isn't...

    PID Parameter help

Apologies for reviving an old thread, but I just wanted to note that after reading through the forums and trying a few things out, the MyPin TD4 PID settings that work like a charm for me are: P=3, I=1, D=5 Temps are almost 100% within a degree in either direction (usually higher, FYI)...

    PID Parameter help

acarter, have you brewed more batches using p=0.5, i=1, d=120? Is it still working out for you? My td4 still likes to fire when I'm already over the target temperature, which is really frustrating when trying to mash a lager at 148!

Kettle diameter too narrow for weldless triclamp

Thanks for all of the suggestions, guys. I tried Bobby's method, but couldn't get it to work, though I think it was a matter of failed execution, not poor theory. The outside ferrule part had nothing for a wrench to grab on to, so I was limited by how hard I could grip without slippage. So I...

Kettle diameter too narrow for weldless triclamp

I tried taking a couple pictures last night, but they didn't turn out well. I'll try again later tonight. Generally speaking, how large of a gap can you silver solder? It's pretty sizeable. I'll also measure it later. Ugh, hope I didn't ruin the kettle with a huge hole!

Kettle diameter too narrow for weldless triclamp

So I bought the Stilldragon 2" weldless triclamp connection a bit ago and finally got around to attempting an install today. Got a nice clean punch through the SS. Then I realized a problem: My kettle is too narrow and tall (about 12.5" diameter) for a ferrule that large, leaving far too large...

2" triclamp WELDLESS bulkheads on blichmann

Thanks for the info. Further question on bending the element slightly: I can squeeze it such that the folded end touches the other side of the element, however, it springs back into the original place. Should I clamp it for a while? Sorry to take the thread offtopic.

2" triclamp WELDLESS bulkheads on blichmann

I picked up one of these and am excited about the potential for easy cleaning without welding. However, I have a couple questions. First, I'm curious about that notch in the cover plate for the element guard: What's the point of it? How do you prevent water from getting in? Is there a...

Small batch ebiab - narrow kettle better?

Thanks for the info jwalkermed, that's perfect. So if the grain bag doesn't have to be entirely above the heating element, I guess kettle shape doesn't really matter, and the grains will fully submersed. Good to know! Interesting turn key items from brausupply, and not as costly as I would...

Small batch ebiab - narrow kettle better?

Hey all, Been gathering brewing info on this site for years, finally asking a question I couldn't specifically find the answer to before. Excited to be posting for the first time! A bit of background, which probably isn't needed to answer the question, but whatever, here it is. For a long...
