Plums and cherries are ripe in N. Alabama

GF - Thanks, and thanks also for the tip about a cherry pittier, you are a wise man! david42 - These cherry trees are the first I have ever seen outside of a magazine or TV. I can't believe that there aren't more around these parts. Like the cherry trees, I've heard of rhubarb, and seen...

Plums and cherries are ripe in N. Alabama

Everyone needs to start asking around...if you haven't already...to see who may have fruit available in your area! I went to help a friend clear a wind damaged tree from his mothers property, a couple of miles away. I returned home with free access to a huge plum tree (I had thought plums...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Let the bottled beers carb for three weeks at 70 degrees F...then chill. The refridgerator can slow, or even stop, the carbonation process, depending on the strain of yeast involved. Pogo

What to do with straight up grape juice

He is right! There is, usually, more than one right way to do something. The natural yeasts, from the skins of the grapes, are in the juice. Simply leave the juice alone, at room temperature, and you will get wine...semi-(without the pulp in the primary)-Old World style! Pogo BTW...

I'll drink it if it kills me

Ummm...any idea what the OG of the juices, GF+apricot, were before adding the sugar? Any idea what the SG of the concoction is now? Two pounds of sugar added to a one gallon batch is probably so sweet that any fermentation is now stalled! I would have warmed the juice to add the sugars...

    averaging 46-48 bottles...

Are you taking weekly gravity readings, and then drinking them, as a batch ferments/conditions? Pogo

Cheap fermentation vessels for wine...Plastic ok???

If you are making wine from juice you are free to use buckets and/or carboys as primaries and/or secondaries. And, usually, your primary will also serve as your secondary, without the need to rack (a la Apfelwein) unless you get a quarter inch, or so, of sediment. If you are making wine from...

    Corona Bottles

Somewhere on this forum is the explanation that Becks, Heiniken, and ALL green bottles, or maybe it's ALL green European import bottles, require a cap that is larger than standard US caps. I forget the exact size, but to use most green bottles you will need to get a larger, optional, bell for...

    De-labeling bottles

Fortunately...for YOU...you must live in a state, and only travel through states, where Homebrewing is legal! After a close call a few months ago, I've begun leaving the painted and plastic labels on my empty bottles. Plus, I've started using a Zap-Cap bottle opener to open ALL of my...

    Stupid Better Bottle question

I use them to attach blow-off tubes when fermenting beer. Insert one end of a length of plastic tubing (of the proper OD to render a snug fit) into the side port, and run the other end into a jug/bucket with just enough water in it to cover that end of the tubing. This creates an...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Thanks guys, for the input! Yeah, I bought a case of Mexican Coca-Cola's last week from a vendor at a farmers market. King-size, 12-ounce, glass 'pry-top' bottles, sweetened with REAL sugar! MAN!!! It was great!!! I doubt if most anyone under thirty, has ever tasted a REAL Coke...

Mr Beer - Read all about it and ask questions

Hmmm... So, adding dextrose to a recipe is really just the same thing as adding corn syrup? Corn syrup, the commodity found in Boone's Farm, Ripple, NightTrain, etc. Corn syrup, one reason Coke's, and ALL soft drinks, don't taste like they did when I was a little kid? Pogo

Help! - I've put 9oz of sugar in my barrel

Hmmm... Since it takes 5 ounces to cabonate a 5-gallon batch, and your intent was to use 3 ounces to carb your "barrel", then it appears to me that you don't have much of a barrel. If your "barrel" is a Mr.Beer barrel, then i would recommend that you just let the batch continue to ferment...
