Also, I partial mashed using BIAB. Maybe I got slightly more efficiency than needed? I'm hoping that all such things are factors and that my OG is really more around 1.063-4.
If you take a look at the recipe on Hopville, this means I apparently got 127% efficiency and that I should expect an 8.9% beer rather than the 6.3% I was shooting for. :(
Hello!
This is about my 10th brew and I'm accustomed to things going more or less well. However, today I realized I had forgotten to take my OG reading after I had already pitched and put the carboy away.
So, I dug it out, took a reading, and got 0.020 more than I was expecting. That's a...
Wow, such fast responses! Thank you!
So, if I'm hearing you all right, basically the error is not _that_ bad and I shouldn't do anything crazy like add more yeast or nutrients or anything.
I was planning to throw some banana extract in and let that do its thing a few days. Does that sound...
Hi folks!
Minor concern, here.
I recently brewed a hefe. I'm going for banana flavors and such, so I decided to underpitch my weihenstephan yeast slightly as I'd read that doing so will increase fruity esters. Also, I wasn't able to do a great job of controlling temperature and it may have...
Hi folks!
I've got some extra white wheat grains and some extra flaked oats.
I was considering adding a judicious amount of the white wheat and flaked oats to the malt bill below, which was originally conceived as an APA.
If I were to add some flaked oats and white wheat to kind of go...
CRAP! I forgot to soak my vanilla beans, and I was planning to add them in secondary tomorrow. I assume overnight won't be enough time to get ze flavorz. What should I do?! Should I:
Not transfer to secondary for another week?
Boil the vanilla beans with some sugar or something to try and make...
I've got some extra stuff laying around and wanted to make a 2-gallon batch to rid of it.
I also thought it would be fun to play with a shorter boil since I'm not going for big hops (I mean, they make 20-minute kits, right? So 30 mins can't be crazy...)
That said, does this recipe (link to...
Simple is good. I need to learn that. (I don't think I had 13 fermentables unless you count the fact I split some up late and early boil... or maybe I did? :P ).
I'm shocked you went through all that trouble to hand-calculate my recipe. Thanks for giving it a look.
I was hoping to give...
BeerCalculus.
I'm thinking my less than scientific measurements of DME and LME are the culprits, here...? But maybe my attempt at decoction upped my efficiency, too? (Or does decoction not do that?)
