I know writers don't always pick their headlines, but...

The article didn't go far enough. Perhaps, "How to tell a Pilsner from a Beer?"

This sounded like such a wonderful idea, I had to try it immediately. Started a brew two days ago at about 7PM. Finished it around 9:30. Transferred to primary at 7AM yesterday, topped it off to 5 gallons, measured SG and pitched the yeast. It's been going strong all day today. Worked like a...

    Oxidized beer issues

I guess it' a stupid question to ask, if you do this and are promoting it, but is it actually safe to leave that little headroom in the bottle? I've always assumed (in spite of what they say about assuming) that the extra space in the bottle makes it less likely that you'll get bottle bombs in...

Found bubbles on top of my pale this morning when I went to dry hop, infection?

Keep in mind that large doses of UV light can make plastics brittle, so avoid whacking a bucket that's spent too much time in the sun, they crack easily. (Personal experience.)

When is a secondary fermenter a good idea?

I know you probably didn't mean it that way, but I feel vaguely insulted by the above. I would hope that there are *no* homebrewing subjects that can't be talked about civilly in a group dedicated to homebrewing and those who pursue the quest for ambrosia. Also, may I point out that the question...

When is a secondary fermenter a good idea?

Keep in mind that I got my science degree from a vending machine at Walmart, but I've seen this suggestion several times, and it does not seem logical. Say, for argument, that you have a cubic foot of space in the top of your carboy, under an airlock. There is a mixture of air in it; oxygen...

When is a secondary fermenter a good idea?

My thanks to everyone who took the time to respond to my question. I've read the entire string over at least twice, and it appears that there is some disagreement on the answer to my question. I don't have any of the fancy equipment that would allow a closed transfer, and I bottle condition all...

When is a secondary fermenter a good idea?

I'm not altogether sure I'm following you... So, do you think NB is recommending too long of a rest in the fermenter? Are you recommending I bottle after 1 month in primary? Or is the rest in secondary a good idea? (In spite of the fact that I don't have the equipent for a closed transfer to...

When is a secondary fermenter a good idea?

I brewed up a Northern Brewer Imperial Stout extract kit a couple of days ago, (OG - 1.08) using 2 packs of Safale S-04 yeast. I'm glad I attached a blow off tube, because it boiled off about half a gallon of foam over the next two days. While it was fermenting I looked at the post-ferment...

Been doing it all wrong I guess

Just the thing to add to beers that taste like horse p. so that they'll taste like Miller Lite instead! Oh, wait... Never mind...
