    Blown off blowoff tube/stopper?

Your beer will be fine. It happens to me on occasion, usually while I'm sleeping. Not really that big of a deal. I've never really had a problem with a bad batch when this happens, and mine stays in a closet with little airflow as well. That's not to say that all sorts of nasties can't get in...

this is probably a dumb question....

For the most part. It depends on how knowledgeable the people there are, and what ingredients they have at the place. There are different maltsters who name grain a little differently, even extract sometimes. The best thing to do would be to ask questions when you show up. If there is...

this is probably a dumb question....

Partial mash would consist of using both grains and liquid malt extract. Rather than steeping grains, you'd actually need to mash the grains (there are a variety of ways to do this...when I first started, I used DeathBrewer's thread on stovetop partial mash) which would imply that you need to...

this is probably a dumb question....

It's not partial mash, but I think everyone here will agree that you should wait until it's finished, try it, and see how you like it. Once you're comfortable with a couple batches of extract brewing, it's really simple to move on up to partial mash. Good luck on your first batch, and welcome...

    First all grain a DISASTER

My friend and I brew in my kitchen, too. Your regimen seems pretty close to our. In the 2 years we've been brewing together, I think we've gone through about 8 hydrometers. On top of that, my girlfriend won't let us dump our trub and other nasties down the drain anymore, so it all goes in...

Whats your carbon footprint... about beer, really.

Was this really necessary? Seriously? Double check the facts...loss of natural habitat=2.5 square meters per six pack drank. It that were the rate, NOTHING WOULD EXIST. Someone mentioned that conservatives use fear-mongering, but liberals do it just as much with information like this. I...

Why Do US Brewers Try To Replicate Branded Beers ?

When I was less experienced than I currently am (and I'm still no whiz...), I did it to gain a little experience. It was comfortable ground to replicate something I knew I'd like. If I just winged it the first time I brewed, how well do you think my beer would've turned out? Maybe palatable, but...

Malto-Dextrin... Where can i find it?

I believe that AHS also has it for order.

    Making half batch help

I would also underpitch the yeast. Some might disagree, but for something that will be aging for that long, I've had luck with underpitching to rid some of the yeasty-ness. It'll allow the fermentation longer time, as well.

    First burn..LESSON TO ALL

Bah.....RDWHAHB. What's a couple of fingers, anyways? In all seriousness, though, thanks for the heads up. I get boilovers pretty regularly and grab the pot and move it, but I've been lucky enough that whatever foams over drops back down immediately.

first AG batch was a disaster!!

Yeah, pretty typical. There's a reason why lots of people never move up to all-grain! Just keep working the kinks out. I do have a couple suggestions though... 1. Try doing all grain in smaller batches. I do some in 2 gallon batches all the time and they work out way better than the 5. 2...

    Top Austin homebrew kits

The Double Chocolate Stout kit is GREAT. My buddy and I made it a month and a half ago and just started tasting some of the bottles and they are really solid. I would suggest not getting the alcohol boost, though. It will contribute an ethanol flavor to the beer and make it a little watery as...

    More Ovaltine please!

Apparently you haven't tasted Young's Double Chocolate. It's Chocolate velvety love in your mouth.

    Carboy smell?

Personally, I've ALWAYS used bleach and have never had a problem. It does a good job of getting remaining krausen and whatnot off of the sides and it's always stayed sparkly clean. Just make sure you rinse. And rinse. And rinse some more. Usually I rinse alternating hot and cold water for 4-6...
