Brewing a batch of this just before the Seahawks are scheduled to win the superbowl this Sunday.
Only difference is that I am using WYeast 1275 (Thames Valley Yeast) and I am dry hopping with Mosaic hops instead of citra.
Will let y'all know how it turns out!
Thanks guys, I feel a lot better about it now.
I was just worried about the rubber imparting a nasty flavor during the mash. Glad to see that isn't an issue.
Okay so I have been getting ready all week for our first brew and it is on a brand new three tier brew stand that I built over the past couple weeks. I am fairly confident in all areas, but I had a minor hiccup with the mash tun. I am using a converted 15.5g keg for a mash tun and I had...
So I am about to try my first All-Grain Batch and this is the recipe I am doing first (Big first AG beer, I know). I've already bought the ingredients and I have the starter going now. My brew day is Sunday.
I did have an idea that I am sure someone else has had before, but I didn't see anyone...
I am stuck... I am about to bottle 5 gallons of English pale ale and I can't figure out how much to use for priming...
I am going for 1.5 volumes of C02, but I can't tell if I am reading this priming sugar calculator I have handy... Its telling me to use less than an ounce of cane sugar to...
Okay, so I have a bunch of questions regarding the use of keggles for brewing 10 gallon batches (or big 5 gallon batches).
After looking in Craigslist in an area within reasonable driving's distance for kegs I am figuring out it may be almost the same price (if not cheaper) to buy 3 kegs...
So for my second extract batch we bought a nylon straining bag to steep the grains with, and we were almost done steeping before we realized that we didn't have a clue where we were gonna put the hops (we were out of muslin bags). We had read that you can put them in the boil straight up, but...
What would be the effect if I steeped all the grains as opposed to half of them? Is this going to get me a stronger flavor, deeper color, fuller body, or what?
So I have an extra 4.75 pounds of Extra light LME... What if I did the following:
Steeped full 2 pounds of grains
Boiled 4.75 pounds...
Any suggestions as to what hops I might want to go with this?
I figured I would get some Dark Dried Malt Extract, about 5 pounds of it. I have no idea on the hops though, perhaps something woodsy or subtle?
I will prolly go with some sort of english ale yeast, but not sure... any suggestions?
So my brew partner was in charge of ordering the supplies this go around and we had both written out the recipes we were going to try along with the ingredients that went with them (extract recipes BTW)... Anyway, he ordered all the stuff from Austin Homebrew Supplies, and this particular site...
So I am on 5 gallon extract brews right now and still perfecting that. But I plan on buying parts slowly to move straighth from 5 gallon batches of extract to 10 gallon of all-grain (in the course of 5-6 months or so). I am trying to configure a list of what to look out for in ebay and...
Okay thank you everyone!
Sounds like I need to spend some time to focusing on my temp control before I move on much further.
Right now we ferment in a room that has an ambient temperature of about 68-70 degrees. However, for at least the first week of the brew (or so) we use a simple and cheap...
Okay so my friend and I split the cost for a 5 gallon beer brewing kit from midwest supplies (intermediate package).. it came with:
1 6.5 gallon primary fermenter bucket
2 5 gallon better bottles
1 6.5 gallon bottling bucket
Auto-Syphon
Hydrometer reader
Bottle filler
(we...
Thanks for responses!
As for exact recipe it's rather simple but here it is:
6 lbs of Dark LME boiled for full 60
Specialty grains (steeped for 30 minutes at 155 degrees)
8 oz of Black Malt
8 oz of Caramel 80 L
Hops
1 oz of NOrthern brewer (no aroma hops) boiled for full 60
Non...
