i have had Shed Mountain Ale before, I have lots of family in VT, and i put in line with some of the black IPA's i have had. I actually just brewed a black IPA today and the color looks very very close to mountain ale.
yea i have never used Chinook before and have herd that it must be boiled for no less then 60 min because it is pretty bitter but all in all the brew went well. Nice and black. I used California V ale yeast as well. Cant wait to see how this turns out!!!
i did a recipe similar to the Norther Brewer Black IPA kit but i sub'd Chinook for the Summit. Weird though becuase I had this recipe for a while and its basically the exact same as the NB black IPA but instead of the 1lb of corn sugar i used a lb. of amber DME. I am brewing later today i will...
i have looked through the recipe database and didnt see anthing that really jumped out at me and was just wondering if anyone has a good recipe for a first time winter ale.
I have many brews under my belt but am a little worried with all of the spices. I do not want to over spice my first...
I dont think you could go wrong with some Amarillo. I always feel as though that gives some earthyness.
I have always used it in conjunction with other hops but from my understanding its along that line.
EDIT- I meant Fuggle not Amarillo. I was looking at my upcoming recipe and had Amarillo...
Wow this thread gained some attention since i last checked.
I am still planning on making this, just an FYI i just got back on for the first time in like 2 months, PC broke but its all back to normal.
I will be doing this one after my little Winter Ale recipe I thew together!!
your fine. its just the yeast eating the priming sugar.
Edit: unless you did stir up the trub, but even then it wouldnt be in every bottle. if its every bottle your ok.
you dont have the bottles in the fridge already do you. could be chill haze but if they are in cellar temp its just stirred up yeast. its conditioning it for you.
Aren't those little buggers just the best!
Has anyone had success brewing up a black IPA?
I fell in love with the Victory Yakima Twilight and my local Breweries, Iron Hill, Black IPA and would love to try one out for a new homebrew.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks
