Didn't remove my aroma hops before the fermentor...

Thanks, I feel a bit better. My previous two batches were using pellets so I didn't even think about trying to remove the sludge. In those old batches (totally different recipe), I also noticed a bit of an astringent taste to my beers (that only I seemed to notice), and wasn't sure where it was...

Didn't remove my aroma hops before the fermentor...

Ok, I know the mantra - don't worry, have a home brew. I thought it might be worth asking so that I can better understand what is happening. I made something resembling the extract version of this ginger ale (half way down the page) During the boil: I put my primary 60 minute hops in a hop bag...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Ginger Ale - 3rd place 2009 HBT BJCP Comp

I should really take this outside of this thread as I'm going to turn it into a newbie-brewer thread, but I appreciate the info. I hadn't really heard of using malto-dextrine before. I'm gonna have to find something to do with my kilo of pilsner grain. :) Thanks for helping this new bit of...

Spice, Herb, or Vegetable Beer Ginger Ale - 3rd place 2009 HBT BJCP Comp

So, I love the idea of trying this out, but this will be my third batch, and my first partial mash. Also, I'm in Sweden and my local store has slightly different ingredients available. I'll be doing this tomorrow unless I'm told I'm an idiot beforehand! I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to...

Beginner looking to expand a bit..

Just a stove top. And it's not even a very big stove. Takes close to an hour to get a boil going. There is a courtyard area but its pretty small. If there's a hose hookup (I don't know how I'd cool the beer before it goes in the primary).. maybe it's usable though...

Beginner looking to expand a bit..

I'm a newbie with two batches under my belt. The first was pretty ok. The second was definitely better. I let a bunch of friends try it.... Now I have demands for more, some asking me to keg it etc. everyone was super encouraging. Of course I understand that my friends are being a bit over the...

First batch of Cooper's Real Ale

Mine just came with the can of extract, a packet of yeast, and instructions that are in a language I don't speak, which is complicating things a bit. The hops are in the extract. It's billed as "no boil" some places. I'm guessing that's because of the hops? Everyone seems to say that you...

First batch of Cooper's Real Ale

Out of curiosity, I'm about to brew my very first batch, and chose the "real ale".. I was wondering, how did yours turn out Chuck? I'm considering following your process.
