    Keg / Carboy Washer (yes another) . . .

The oil is used for lubrication and cooling of the motor as it runs. Came across this article: "Submersible Well Pumps and Water Contamination". Its for well pumps but the principle is generally the same for these oil filled submersibles. Edit: (hit submit too early) Older pumps may...

    Keg / Carboy Washer (yes another) . . .

First off, amazing thread! Looking forward to building one this week. While researching pumps, i came across this image from amazon: The part that concerns me is the: "Exclusive Double O-Ring Seal-Reduces Oil Leaking" I assume with any submersible this will be the case. Is this me...

Different line lengths for Beer and Soda Kegs on a single regulator?

Thanks for the replies. Since I am limited on space I can only afford to have one soda keg on tap. My wife prefers sparkling water (ie: San Pellegrino) so i have that for her. Flavorings are added to the glass after the fact. This gives us the most flexibility, plus its easier to...

Different line lengths for Beer and Soda Kegs on a single regulator?

I am in the process of converting my Haier single tower Kegerator into a tripple tower so i can have 2 beers on tap and one of soda water. Before i cut my liquid tubing i thought to ask the following: Since I am only using one regulator, should consider different liquid line lengths for...

soda water without wasting keg space

if you cant go keg, +1 for the carbonation cap. I run a 3 corny (ball lock) keg system at home and always have one keg of fizzy water on tap. Before my kegerator I used the carbonation cap and 1L or 2L bottles. Its a bit more than the instructables hack, but worth it in the long run. The...

Cant seem to get a blue flame. Lots of soot.

You think this is bad... Wish i had a before photo,. Wife almost killed me when i completely blackened "her" stockpot. Bartenders friend to the rescue. The burner still needs a bunch more work, plus i also need to season it a few times. At this point glad that things are going in the...

Cant seem to get a blue flame. Lots of soot.

Here are some photos of the flame after i evened out the rim and wire brushed off the rust. Drastically better than the first few times i fired it up. Will need to go back and adjust how the cap sits on top. As you can see from the photos the flame is higher on one side than the other...

Cant seem to get a blue flame. Lots of soot.

Hooray!!! This weekend I ground down the slag and cleaned up the rust. This resulted in a significant improvement to the quality of the flame. Much more blue w/ yellow tips. Will post some photos once i download them from the camera. I am happy w/ the results but still think the...

Cant seem to get a blue flame. Lots of soot.

Great tip. Will definitely season my burner after i clean up all the rust and slag. Instead of the lard shortening i use canola or peanut oil.. seems to work well on my cast iron and cast BBQ parts.

Cant seem to get a blue flame. Lots of soot.

Was originally planning to buy a Bayou Classic Banjo but got suckered into the deal for the Academy burner. Lesson learned: You get what you pay for. Have started researching components for a 3 burner brew rig and I like the BG-14 from agrisupply.com (similar / same burner in the banjo)...

Cant seem to get a blue flame. Lots of soot.

Here are a few photos of what my burner looks like when disassembled. I am quite curious about the rust and soot pattern in the first photo. Looks like there is a bit of slag at the top of the hole that is preventing the top part from seating evenly. There is very little rust behind...

Cant seem to get a blue flame. Lots of soot.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. Will disassemble the burner tomorrow afternoon to diagnose the problem further. Will take a few photos and post what i find.

Cant seem to get a blue flame. Lots of soot.

I purchased one of Academy Sports' home brand Outdoor Gourmet turkey fryer burners w/ stand (pictured below) with the intention of keeping all the heat of brewing outside of my house. Unfortunately, no matter what i try to adjust i am getting loads of soot on the bottom of my brew kettles...

    Questions about making pear cider.

I have a pear tree with an abundance of fruit, so I have been researching pear cider / perry recipes. The pears are green and firm with a slight sweetness to them. Unfortunately they are a bit too fibrous for eating. Being a beer brewer, I thought that making cider may be a fun experiment...
