Other than bittering charge (CTZ), Sip of Sunshine is said to be 100% Citra. I brewed a clone a couple years ago using Conan that come out quite fruity. I did not use many of the methods discussed in this thread (e.g. I added hops throughout the boil, waited until secondary to dry hop, etc.)...
I have keg conditioned other beers w/o issue. After transferring to the keg I hook up to CO2 at 12psi to "set" the lid then remove the CO2. Thinking is, fermentation from additional sugar added at kegging should keep pressure significantly higher than 12psi thus keeping lid tight. If you have...
I've had issues with my kegs getting clogging w/hop matter if I don't crash in my conical first. I suppose I could add a screen to the dip tube. Also, I add one dry hop at tail end of fermentation then another about 5 days later, have you tried doing only 1 dry hop addition? Your way would...
Was wondering if anyone has tried keg priming to help reduce the oxygen that makes it into the keg? Only downside (or upside?) I could see would be impact on the dry hop flavor/aroma if done at the same time as one of the dry hop additions.
Thanks all for the great ideas on using false bottoms/bags.
Any special method to bend the heating element without damaging? Would like to do this with mine so I can brew 5gal batches with my old BIAB bag and a false bottom.
Do you use any float switch on your pump to make sure your element doesn't get exposed? I had one of my first batches ruined because the mash colander wasn't draining fast enough. Is the false bottom just more reliable?
Thanks hgearle, this is very helpful. I will have to build b1v1r's whirlpool arm, that should make a big difference. I already have the racking arm for the racking port.
I just brewed a low OG porter and added the hops using a mesh bag which significantly reduced the trub. I may start doing...
Thanks, this is helpful. I have been considering the bag route, but always concerned about it hitting the heating element. I'll have to keep an eye out for the baskets, that sounds like a much better option. I've gone up to 1lbs of hops in my bigger NEIPAs (14oz post flameout), will the...
For your input on the whirlpool does the wort simply splash down from the lid port back into the BIAC?
Does this set up generate enough spinning in the wort to keep the hops in suspension?
I've had lots of issues with clogged pumps when intaking from the port at the bottom when I use...
That sure looks tasty. Just kegged mine with same hop trifecta. I used 100% golden promise for the base, hoping it adds a bit of extra sweetness vs straight 2-row
I ferment in Fido jars (they burp, so no need for air locks). I've stored in the Fido jars for ~6 months in my basement after fermentation hit the sourness I like. I've had no issues, probably because limited oxygen gets into the jars and low PH environment. Works for pickles as well
I love Mosaic, got a couple pounds from morebeer last month to make sure I'd have plenty for the spring/summer.
S-04 worked well, took mine from 1.07 to 1.016. Started fermentation at 63 and after 3 days (1.029) rampped to 66 over 3 days. My samples have not had any of the wet...
Glad to hear you liked the Citra/Amarillo combo. I have a Citra/Mosaic/Amarillo NHE IPA just about ready for the keg. I used S-04, what dry yeast did you use in your last batch?
You should be fine. I just brewed an Northeast IPA and added the dry hops on day 3 (about 75% of the way through fermentation). Some yeasts have the ability to biotransform hop compounds which will change the dry hop profile in the beer. So you could end up with a different profile if...
As background, I brew using a BrewHa BIAC system (essentially a BIAB all-grain system built in a conical).
For my kettle souring I mash as normal, remove the grain from the wort and do a quick boil (this removes oxygen from wort and some claim helps because it pasteurizes the wort, though...
