I use a sight glass on my pump re circulation manifold as an easy way to prevent stuck sparges. The open top of the sight glass will prevent the pump from ever sucking vacuum on the grain bed.

It can also be known as a sub-irrigated planter. the "Earthbox" title is just the brand name from a company that sells them Most people just make their own. I've been trying to keep it up to date but I have some photos on my hop growing page here...
