I did a batch last week and just now with the White Labs Stranda Variant. I split the one vial into 2 batches since Kveik only needs about 5 grams or 3/4 of a tablespoon to work. I have a pack of Lalbrew's Voss which I will use next month. The beers were an APA and a Summer Wheat.
They called me today and. they are sending out a new boiler and controller box. They even admitted they had some bad boxes. Well I am getting a new one and a new 3 year warranty and it is direct from them.
Well my GF controller box had decided it wanted to fuse the heater plug after a whole 25 brews... Waiting to hear back from the company on a replacement. The crazy thing is it did not fuse totally put the plug post holes had melted plastic in it. I tried doing a test with water afterwards and...
I did the fan cooling on my last brew and the box was barely warm.. Going to keep doing it. I really do not want to have a melt down and electrical work ain't my thing to redo the plug.
I have 5 brew down on my Grainfather and my beers are so much better than the cooler method. I am consistently overshooting the gravity I have calculated and before I could not get a hoppy beer to be well hoppy... That changed with the Grainfather. I went from good beers to great beers.
So I added a 10 min mash out step to the recipe I am doing Sunday. I do 75 min mashes so I have 1st step at 65 at 152 and I added a second step at 170 for 10 mins. Will see how that goes.
Dumb question guys. I have noticed the last 10 of the mash has mash out on the controller. Is it supposed to raise the temp or do you need to manually raise or add a another step to the recipe?
I would not use the "purified drinking water" at all. it is basically city water run through a few filters and can leave some nasty **** behind. I struggled with IPA's for a long time and I am now on year 9 of brewing. If you use spring water most of them are at 6.0ph around here in new England...
I have had zero issues with boils on my GF 3 brews in. Granted it is not the same intensity but my efficiency is 85% with it. You have to wrap it either with the coat or a refectix coat. I also do not do 60 mins like they state. I mash and boil at 75 and calculate my water for 5.5 gal batches...
So just finished my 3rd batch on the Grainfather .Nothing went wrong with the process this time and I even am used to the CF chiller and was a couple points up form what my gravity was in the recipe was. I consistently hit above the gravity in my recipes now. and I was start to finish in 5 and...
So I got an email from the manufactures of the Grainfather. After bitching and stomping my feet (which I never do) they are replacing the top plate under warranty.
On a side note my first brew was off by a half a gallon.... what is the actual boil off and bottom loss everyone is getting and...
Well it is currently 6:13am. My first Grainfather brewery has started. Doing my Northern English Brown aka Touchdown Brown. I just noticed that the spare readings on the app on two different devices is different. I think I saw a post about 50 pages ago with someone saying it is not syncing the...
