    hefe fermenting question

With a proper pitch size and Temps hefe yeast will usually finish fermentation in around a week. You usually need a blow off tube unless your primary fermentation vessel is much larger than typical for your barley size. I typically ferment a hefe at 68-69 and raise the temp to around 72-73...

    hefe fermenting question

Thanks for the tip, but please check the date on the original post. It was over 9 years ago. I've got many Hefe's under my belt now - I've even scored 40+ on a couple in BJCP competitions. Looking back its funny because knowing what I know vs. what I didn't know then - now I'd never use a...

    Need help with motorized mill...

The MM3-2.0 (my mill in the link above) has a 1/2" shaft with no keyway. It does have 3 flat spots milled on the shaft that the setscrew on the lovejoy coupler holds just fine. Since its a 3 roller mill you'd have to flip the drive rotor to make it run the other direction and still push the...

    My new mill station

you'll also need a coupler to connect the output shaft from the gearbox to the shaft of you milld. The one's I got are made by lovejoy. They're on page 1163 of the mcmaster carr catalog.

    My new mill station

Got the motor off ebay. Its a 1/3hp 1750rpm GE motor. The gearbox is from Groschopp. Model RA40 10:1 reduction. The reducer bolts directly to the motor as they're both NEMA 56C. WHen I called to order the reducer they told me they'd only be selling the NEMA ones for a few more weeks before...

    My new mill station

Got tired of using a 3/8 drill with my old Barley crusher. I now have a new Monster Mill MM3-2.0 with a 1/3 HP motor and 10:1 right-angle speed reducer. It runs at 175rpm with 109 in-lbs of torque. I love it. The bottom photo shows my new rig with the old barley crusher sitting on top.

Help wiring a RIMS control panel

I'm upgrading to a RIMS tube set up for my MLT. I'll still use propane for the HLT and BK. I only have 120v outside where I brew. I'm planning on using a PID/SSR to control a 1500w element in my RIMS tube. I'm looking for how to wire the control box with an interlock where the RIMS element...

    Portable draft device

The 70qt has a domed lid so you can put the keg in with disconnects attached and still be able to close the lid. As the above post says, you'd have to do some "modifications" to make the smaller one work.

    Portable draft device

Thanks! I'd prefer not to cut the plastic liner if not needed. I'm thinking I can actually get 2 kegs in there without mods, but one of the taps would be on the side and one on the front. Not the prettiest but functional.

    Portable draft device

Ed, Can you get pictures of the interior from your buddy so I can see exactly how much needed to be removed to fit 2?

    Portable draft device

Yes it does, do you take the tower off for transport?
