    Cheap Fermenting vessels?

Check out Lowes. They got 3 gallon and 5 gallon jugs. The 5 gallon jugs are no 7, so no good, but the 3 gallons were no 1. I got a couple i use for medium batches of beer or cider. Not sure about long term storage, but worked good for primary fermenting.

Gross bubly white skin on top, low gravity reading - anything to be worried about?

Did the bucket have white paint in it? If so, i bet i know whats on top of your beer, haha

Cobalt Blue Bottles - Good Or Bad?

I bought a case of those blue bottles. I use them for apfelwein. They work great, and sunlight doesnt affect apfelwein, so its all good!

    Aluminum Kettle's Oxide Layer

Just adding that mine is the same way. Nice and black on the bottom, but that disappears towards the top. Works great, just waiting on a good deal for a bigger one. I'm convinced that aluminum is ok to brew with. (Unless i find a cheap keggle).

What fruit flavor do you add? And how?

To get the best fruit flavor you need to add it to the secondary. I made an american wheat with the shavings of 1 orange added in the secondary and it came out great. Just a nice refreshing summer beer.

    Bratwurst beer! Yummo

I'm considering "dry sausaging" a beer. Maybe a 1 gallon batch, haha.

    Extract Lifespan

My father in law gave me two cans of extract that expired in 2005. I did up a simple brew with the stuff and it came out allright, but not great. But i end up with 2 cases of beer for less than $10. However there is a slight metallic twang.

    Wort Chiller

You should boil plain water for 30-45 minutes to build up an oxide layer on your aluminum pot. This will turn the inside a little black, but thats what you want! As for the chiller if the copper is already clean you are good to go. If its dirty you can dunk it in a water and vinegar boil. I...

    Missing orange flavor

I recently made a wheat beer and put the shavings from 2 oranges into the secondary and got some real good orange flavor out of that. It was real strong the first week, then mellowed out to what i think is a perfect level. So yea, toss them into the secondary

    One hop rhizome DOA

I had a Centennial that i thought was DOA, but it just came up this morning. I plated exactly one month ago. Freshops actually sent me 2 Mt Hood and 2 Willamette, i only ordered 1 of each, but they are both up and alive. Got 1 Cascade that is up too. 6/6, woohoo!

Fantastic deal on turkey fryer!! (for boiling wort)

Question: Can you do the initial 30 minute boil to make the oxide layer, then let that water cool to strike temperature and use that boiled water for your mash? Seems like that would be easier, and less wasteful, than boiling 6-7 gallons, dumping it, then heating up fresh water for the mash.

Cheap & Easy 10 Gallon Rubbermaid MLT Conversion

Just picked up all the parts at Lowes. Having a list of all the part numbers really rocks. Total bill was just over $20. Oh for the washers, I just had some 5/8 stainless fender washers stamped out. Working nights in a sheet metal shop = good. Should have pics of the MLT all built sometime...

What do you guys prefer for bottles?

SWMBO's family drinks coke out of those little 8oz glass bottles. Apparently they have been saving them up and just brought over a couple cases worth the other day. They are clear, so they wont work good for beer, but i think they will be great for bottling up little bits of mead or wine to...
