    12 hrs..no activity!

If the smack pack swole up, you have live yeast. It may not be as viable as desired, but your beer will be fine. RDWHAHB

Old to homebrew new to winebrew

They harm added yeasts slightly, but natural occurring yeasts are much more affected. Depends on what kind of SG you're looking for (sorry for not being more helpful, don't do much fruit wines).

    Color and Efficiency

Very true, hadn't thought about that.

    Color and Efficiency

My intuition tells me that color is a lot easier to extract from grain than sugars. Thus, you always reach 100% of color extraction. Not sure if this is exact though.

Bottling 10% ABV Golden Strong - add yeast?

Tip #1: as you can guess, this beer will not carbonate extremely quickly. Tip #2: You most likely have the required amount of viable yeast for bottle fermentation in the sediment. When you rack your beer for bottling, try and get just a little bit of the deposit into your bottling bucket...

    Lincoln Lawyer

To be honest I was a little be let down by the movie. SWMBO and I both read the novel beforehand, and although the movie was decent, there's a lot that they had to leave out for the movie, so much so that I found the plot (which I already knew) to be a bit thin... SWMBO thought the same thing...

Next Batch Ideas with Octoberfest Ale Yeast Cake

I wouldn't think that a pint of "darker" beer in let's say 5 gallons of lighter beer is going to be noticeable. At all. You're bigger problem is over-pitching. For detailed information: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f163/why-not-pitch-your-yeast-cake-166221/ When I do this, I typically...

Weissbier Bee Cave Brewery Bavarian Hefeweizen

I have to thank Ed for this recipe. Brewed it up for the second time, just kegged it after 8 days in primary and the FG sample I took was simply delicious. I just want to emphasize how important temperature control on this brew is. I have a thermometer in my fermentation room with a probe...

    BeerSmith2: Simplified Brewsheet

Yes that was removed in the fermentation section. This sheet may not be as ideal as the standard one to go to LHBS to pick up ingredients (as dry hopping and Misc. items added to fermentation will not show up on here) but as stated, the real objective is a "single page needed while brewing".

    BeerSmith2: Simplified Brewsheet

I noticed that when I was creating it: the standard Brewsheet doesn't have the symbol, and to stay as close to it as possible, I decided to not add it.

    BeerSmith2: Simplified Brewsheet

Yeah I forgot to mention: if anyone wants to change naming stuff and whatnot, you can simply open up the file in Word or Notepad change it to whatever you like and then resave as an HTML file to import it into Beersmith. Glad people appreciate it!

    BeerSmith2: Simplified Brewsheet

Hey all, I decided to create a modified Brewsheet, based on the original one, with a few extra add-ons. My first objective was to be able to get it printable on only one sheet. I've achieved that by deleting some of the features on the Brewsheet that I find useless (most notably I deleted...

    Maple chips instead of oak

My first recommendation before trying this in a full batch: try to extract the flavor using Vodka. Leave it to soak for a week or two, then after that add a bit to a beer you have that's already finished. It will give you somewhat of and idea if it will work by adding it directly to the...

Any good Bamberg Rauchbier recipes around?

Yep. Rauch = smoke in German. I've also heard of using up to 5% of Carafa Special I (for colour).
