    Marbles as a Mash Filter

Are you worried at all about even one of the marbles shattering in the heat? That's the only thing Id be worried about.

SMaSH: 2 row american pale malt and crystal

So how was it? I'm getting ready to brew a very similar beer. Two row Marris Otter pale malt, a 1056 starter and a mess of crystal. It's my umpteenth AG beer but my first SMaSH. Just trying to finish the last of my grain bag and left over hops and searched for SMaSHes with that bill came up...

What is the best way to whirlpool?

When I whirlpool I get a good spin going with the biggest spoon I can lay my hands on. I get a nice pile of mess in my keggle. Hops or pellets regardless. The keggle bottom is concave and it's shape naturally helps to act as a mitt for all the break so that may also be an advantage there Im...

    Hangar 24 orange wheat clone

Is that Hangar 24 in Redlands CA? If so, yes. I too, would love this. It's awesome stuff. The smell of that place in the spring when the orange trees bloom is incredible.

    Ambient vs in carboy temps

Hello my peeps, Just checking to see if there's a quasi-rule out there for what an actively fermenting 5 gallon carboy will add to ambient temps. For instance, I just stuck my carboys in a fridge at 60. Recipe calls for 68 degrees. The fermometer strip is reading 70-ish. should I add temp to the...

AG Beers seem to lack body. Help!

Plus 1 on what JDS said. I had the exact same problem dude. I went nuts in every direction getting a mill, PH meter, all sorts of Blichmann related gear, a thermapen, playing with recipes and grains before I spent the measly 16 bones and got my water analyzed by Ward labs. Holy crap. Knowing my...

Aging or Maturing - Does it make a difference?

I've had trouble with the last couple of batches (various equipment issues during brewing) and I have found that letting my beer sit in a keg for 3-4 weeks really helps the flavors come out nicely. If you don't have problems then you probably dont need to do that. Congrats to you if you dont :-)

    How long before tapping

Excellent! Hey thanks for all the feedback. I'm trying to follow Yooper's schedule (because I really get anxious to try it) but I notice that it tastes better as I let it sit so I'm trying to exercise patience too. I just need to get a reliable schedule of a day off per month or two that I can...

    Monster Mill using hand crank?

Hey, just a heads up, you might want to get the handle just in case your drill craps out mid-mill session. I had that happen and luckily my handle was there for a nice backup. I could have used other things but having a proper handle was nice.

Brass pilot for Brutus 10 jet burners

Hi Folks, I'm trying to move on to full automation of my Brutus but I'm having trouble finding a pilot to use for the mini jet burners. I've seen a few in pics. Looks like a little brass flat top jobbie. Anyone know where I can get one? I heard theres a place in Portland somewhere.... Thanks...

    New Immersion Chiller vs. Therminator

Actually, my plan is to do a similar thing except run the cooling water through a pump and circulate it through the coil in the ice bath, through the therminator and then back through the coil in the ice bath in a loop. That should save the most water and chill the quickest.

    How long before tapping

Hi Folks, Just wanted to see what everyone was doing in regards to how long you let your beer set before tapping it. I brew 10 gallon batches and I usually let them sit in primary for about a month, rack into a keg, let it sit for a week at low pressure to carb and then enjoy. The thing is that...
